And yet. Tomorrow. I will be eating. While you’re starving

Just poking fun lol but hearing stuff like that explains why not many people can stick to keto. That’s dedication

I can't do protein shakes - also make me shit LOL. I pretty much cannot do anything but whole foods. No dairy at all (SHITS). There is some isolate whey, but it's expensive and I much prefer some food, shakes don't fill me up unless I fill them with whole foods. My fiber is pretty moderate - I eat 1c oats (prob the most fiber I get) a day and 24oz of potatoes and 4 cups of rice. Veggies are minimal right now (bloating ugh) but, fiber

I think I was born with an iron stomach. I can eat anything and everything and it doesn’t bother me at all.

Nah man, poke away. Me, two years ago, I would be making the same jokes. If you ever do make the switch, you will not regret it. At some point, I'll write a long ranting post with all the citations for your reading pleasure on why intermittent fasting is good for you, and so is keto.

@PackCon made a great post a few pages ago about nutritional timing. You can stay in ketosis as long as fat is your dominant metabolite. So, if you want to slam 200gs of carbs before your workout (b-day cake every day), you can stay in ketosis as long as you burn that off during your workout. I think carbs are great, but I eat them in isolation.

I'll be honest, for all the shit you guys gave me about being 6% bf, Im not too far off. When you starve yourself daily, you get trim. Like really trim. And if you can stay trim and slam B-day cake before your workouts, never feel hungry or at least like you "must" eat, and still get strong, why wouldn't you? Simply being comfortable while you are hungry is completely worth it.

What is your microbiome status? Are you a big pro-biotic and yogurt fan? I highly recommend working these into your diet. Good yogurt like siggis, and probiotic drinks like kombucha and good belly will even your gut out. My wife thought she was gluten free and lactose intolerant all her life. I aggressively increased ground flax seed, yogurt, and pro-biotics in her diet and SURPRISE! - she isnt any of those things. Get your shits right.

Eh. I’m the least fit one in here. But I try to listen to people who have builds/body types that are my goals and thunderbuddy, taco, and NAsupra all say I needed more carbs in my macros so now I’m eating more rice in dinner.

I don't know much on the gut or micro biome so you'd need to school me a little. All I know is if I have even a coffee from Starbucks with milk in it I am shitting within an hour. Black coffee doesn't do that to me I typically drink it 2x a week.

PC and I had a convo about this awhile ago. I stopped those foods that cause me issues like dairy and protein and never felt better.

Coffee from starbucks makes everyone have bloody diarrhea.

The gut microbiome is a relatively new concept in metabolism research. Turns out more bacteria live in your butt than you have cells in your body. Many scientists now consider a "human" an endosymbiotic organism due to the importance of the gut-body relationship. Some strains of bacteria actually make neurotransmitters like dopamine and serotonin - which profoundly effect mood and your decision making. Anyway, your gut microbiome is responsible for altering nutrients in a way that allows your body to absorb it. Its also a potent immune system modulator too because it provides your body with constant exposure to foreign antigens. If these bacteria get out of line, which scientifically means a given species that is undesirable increases in dominance, it can create massive disruption for your body that ends up manifesting as dietary sensitivities (very common), autoimmune disease, uncontrollable weight gain, fatigue, depression/anxiety, and poor metal and physical performance. Everyone has different versions of these symptoms and different combinations. However, people with severe and broad dietary restrictions without a clear autoimmune diagnosis commonly have a poor microbiome. This means that bacteria that produce farts and cause bowel dysfunction are more dominant than bacteria that dont. So when you eat the foods they like, you get these symptoms. Do you follow?

An easy way to get around this is to bombard your system (I mean bombard - as much as possible) with your desired strains of bacteria until your body begins to tolerate the foods you desire to east again. Its really simple to do - make your own kombucha, and drink way too much of it. Also eat fermented foods like sauerkraut and pickles. You can take live probiotics if you like too. To get these good bugs to stick, they need their desired food, which is fiber - aka carbs so complex we cant digest them. There are a million different types. But suffice to say, if you stick to ground flax seed as your primary, reheated potatoes (the reheated is key) as your secondary, and psyllium husk as your last resort, you will give these super critters the nutrition they need. Lacto bacilli are the strains you want to focus on. Once you have done this, slowly up your intake to more dairy based products like yogurt, which have an epic amount of these and will seal the deal in terms of gut re-population. And then never back down. Keep this stuff coming.

Interesting. Completely foreign to me, but interesting. So, if there aren’t any foods that mess with my stomach, that means I have a healthy gut?

Also, what’s the deal with reheated potatoes? I eat a lot of them.

I only eat 120-150 carbs per day lol. I definitely did not tell you to eat more carbs

And majority of my carbs are consumed before, during, or after my workout. The only other carbs I eat are whatever is in the whole milk I drink with breakfast and with my shake before bed. Lunch is just chicken and dinner is just beef and an egg

Healthy gut? From a diarrhea perspective, yes. Are you fat, fatigued, depressed, and battling a strong a immune response - maybe not.

When cooked potatoes cool, the branched carbohydrates form a version of fiber that "good" bacteria like. Once they are in this state, they stay there, even after you reheat them. Cooking potatoes and sticking them in the fridge overnight makes a nice probiotic.

BTW - probiotics don't necessarily mean live bacteria cultures. Usually its cheap shitty fiber, so beware when buying pills. Also, if you are consuming live cultures without the necessary fiber (bacteria food), you wont get any benefit.

To be clear, this mean drinking a half gal of chocolate milk while eating a row of Oreos is not what you are supposed to be doing. You will find that a lot of the guys on here, unbeknownst to them, routinely cycle in and out of ketosis. Eating only beef and an egg for dinner will likely put @ThunderCookies in ketosis for brief period while sleeping. How else do you think fat gets burned? Ketones are the result of fat being metabolized.

Okay so you can attack Oreos but you leave chocolate milk alone.
