Looking for some ideas on what material to use to dampen the road noise with a rear seat delete. When driving at highway speed the noise is unreasonable.

Obviously a noob question: why would it make more road noise?

It doesn't make more noise, the rear seats are big pieces on foam that absorb the already existing noise from the driveline and road. Once the seats are removed, then the noise is no longer absorbed and the cab becomes much noisier. OP will have to apply something to the rear of the cab to do the same job as the rear seats if he doesn't want all the noises.

This is what I have right now. It’s completely gutted and is very loud going down the highway. I’m going to build a shelf and possibly a slide for the fridge.

If you are looking for something a bit cheaper than Dynamat, I’ve found that Noico sound deadener from Amazon works just as well.

I think I’m going to go with kilmat. So I have these two vents on the back wall. They also let in tons of noise. Not sure what purpose they serve. Can I just cover them with the kilmat? I plan on just having a shelf where the seats where.

The cab isn't really designed to hold a pressure or vacuum so I wouldn't completely block them off.

These vents are for ventilation. They allow air movement from the front, to the back while the HVAC system is on and the windows are closed. Without them your HVAC system may operate poorly.

    And this

Interesting. They are just holes with little rubber flaps. I didn’t know the were so important. I’ll have to think of a way to keep it an open system.

Some dynamat or noico sound deadening material would be good for killing rattles and vibrations. But that stuff doesnt really block noise. You need to add a layer of closed cell foam or neoprene against the metal surfaces, then a layer of mass loaded vinyl over that to deaden road noise. You could do 2 layers of the MLV and block even more noise. You could also stick pieces of melamine foam into voids and what not, it's kinda like magic eraser material. The bottom line is, to kill road noise you have to add mass. MLV is fairly cheap and super dense. Some people actually use sheets of lead.

My goose gear back plate covers those vents. No issues. IMG_20190816_160714.jpg

That’s sweet! I’m sure it would be safe enough to just let my kids slide around on that so I don’t need seats.

Yeah but the vents aren't sealed off like they would be with sound deadening material.
