That makes my eye twitch. Way to overcomplicated. And it only sorta works.

@Speedytech7 You've got some cool videos. You are very well spoken. Very clear. You should make some DIY videos and get a big youtube following and (check).

I didn't see an answer to one of your thrift store find questions. I can tell you about the magnetic tape cartridge. It looks to be part an IBM 3480 family of cartridge based data backup tapes. The volume serial number is 005102. A responsible company will destroy any magnetic media before it leaves the organization for data protection purposes. Hopefully, the tape was erased by a tape degaussing/erasure device before being decommissioned. Modern drives automatically encrypt data with strong encryption algorithms as it is written to tape for protection.

Tapes are still in use (though with much higher density) and tracked by the volume serial number for "service life management" and rotation in and out of robotic managed tape management library. There is a software based file name-to-volume serial number catalog that cross-references files to volume serial numbers to the system will automatically recall the tape and load the data to disk based on accessing a file name. In a sense its like having a perpetual file archival system that doesn't occupy your prime high speed disk until you need to pull in a old file for reference.

The 3480 series replaced the classic round reel tape that you see in this picture.

On page 4 of this link you can get information on the 3480 and some IBM storage history.

Oh I can tell you how we though the 3480 tape cartridges were a godsend from the classic 9-track tape reels. Here's a picture of the first IBM System 370 that I started programming when I was just youngster.

There's another 1st gen PreRunner in my neighborhood. I spotted this one parted at my neighborhood Ace Hardware.

Based on the parking spot, I suspect the owner works at Ace.

Whoever owns it has some money invested in wheels. This is my favorite color.

I might try to figure out who owns it and strike up a conversation. This might be a candidate for one of my Holiday season random acts of kindness to help out somebody who has a vehicle like mine that needs some assistance.

Once in a while I find people selling a Nissan/Infiniti on CL because the car is suffering from a bad MAF or something really easy where I have the spare part in my workshop. Then I'll find that somebody is trying to rip them off and charge $400 or $500 for a MAF and telling them is part of the computer system. So they are scared to death and dumping a basically good car.

So I'll give them one of my spare MAFs and fix their car to brighten their world for bit. Its just one of my "goes around comes around" kind of things.
