Has anyone had to replace a clutch yet?

All i can say is good luck and if you use the dealer to replace it, hopefully they will find out why this happened, so at least the warranty will cover it .

Curious to know what caused it, let us know.

 

This was an issue with the 4cyl clutches, not sure about the 6cyl. I bad the LUK junk and the pressure plate was defective. The 'fingers' on the plate were all warped, easy to spot once out. Hope they warranty this for you OP.

 

Lots of factors to consider. I know it happens on all cars/trucks (low mileage clutch failure), but I can tell you now, they are gonna find a reason to blame you on a wear item. Even if there is an issue

Had 180 k kloics on mt 2nd gen and clutch was original and working fine

 

Had mine replaced very early on. I think at around 6k miles, I can't even remember correctly. Except my clutch wasn't slipping. I think mine was dragging a little bit because I was hearing bearing type noise and some of shifts were notchy and 1st would actually be harder to pull out of gear with the clutch all the way to the floor. Was told it was an overtorqued pressure plate. Was covered by warranty. Thank God!

 

That really sucks OP. I was looking hard at a OR MT but then saw that they don’t make them in LB. I was debating as I like MT paired with the options of the OR (plus it’s like a theft deterrent since most can’t drive them lol). I then found multiple posts on here as I was researching with premature clutch failures. It’s very likely a factory issue affecting a small percentage, you might get them to cover it if you deal with corporate and are persistent. Clutch should last at least 100k even with hard use. The few posts that I saw made the decision easier to go with the AT since I was pretty set on LB. I wish you luck. Start sending emails to corporate.

For now while waiting on the dealer's response I would call these guys and ask them their take on the 3rd Gen OEM clutch, they do offer two redesigned clutch assys:

If the warranty won't cover your OEM clutch I would seriously consider the URD clutch and maybe their flywheel?

 

I have a 2016 OR MT 158500 km ( 99000 miles) no issues,no noticeable change since new.
There must be some defect.

 

Feels like mine might be on the way out. Probably from towing heavy loads. Just hit 51k

 

Lucky you! If you wouldn't have had it addressed til a few more miles they might have tried to blame normal wear.

Yeah I'll do that. I have an anti-theft sticker on my truck with a 6spd diagram.

Yeah I'm going to try pestering corporate and try to get someone on the phone but not sure if I'll make any progress, so probably spending thousands on this work myself. Already planned to bump to a stage 3 and the heavy duty flywheel. If I replace with another OEM clutch, there's no way I'm keeping the truck (I'm not replacing the clutch every two years no way). Only way I'm keeping it is if the clutch is going to last and a stage 3 should be able to take any normal abuse a regular clutch can.

 

Mine is in a shop getting its clutch changed as we speak; I have a thread on it. I’m at 50k miles and I’ve driven only manuals my entire life (20 years of driving now). I did buy the truck with 25k miles on it so who knows what the previous owner did.

I’ve never had a clutch go this fast. I did have an Audi clutch go once but that was over 100k miles.

I went with the URD clutch. I should have it back on Monday so I’ll post a review. I also had them install the URD short shifter while they are at it. I’ll post a review After a week once I receive the truck back. Hopefully the shop runs into zero problems. He’s charging me 750 for the install and 150 to resurface the flywheel. I bought my own clutch so that’s not included in there.

The shop did say that a ton of my bolts were rusted to hell. He’s going to use marine grade nuts and bolts they don’t rust (he mentioned the driveshaft bolts and exhaust pipes etc).

 

My 1992 4 cyl had 270,000 when I sold it. Clutch worked fine, buyer was surprised I had never replaced it. He buys and sells Toys.

What's the best indicator for a slipping clutch? Driven manual all my life and never had one malfunction yet..

 

for me it was only in higher gears on the highway. So let’s say you’re in 5th gear and all of the sudden you gas the car, if the rpm shoots up without the truck actually moving any faster then your clutch is slipping.

 

I heard it easy to shock the load the tranny with performance clutches in passenger vehicle use.

 

I replaced mine at 40k due to the throwout bearing taking a shit. Went with the URD stage 2 and heavy flywheel. I also did the accumulator delete at this time. Made all the difference in the world afterward.

 

You never know how a previous owner drove the vehicle. I bought a Sportster with only 250 mikes on it and found that the clutch was burnt. Some people just can’t drive MT’s.

 

RPMs go up but the engine speed doesn't, or does very slowly. That's a slipping clutch.

 

That and some people think that trucks are made for racing.
