If your vin sticker has this, it was originally sold in Canada.

If it has coating on the frame now, a Toyota dealer may have done that. You can go to corporate website and type you vin # in and see if Toyota did that. That coating from Toyota comes with some kind of guarantee. Welcome to TW.

OK, so if I'm understanding you right, it was sold new in Texas? If so, then your inspection needs to be done in the US. That pic I posted is off my Taco. It was sold new in Canada, so I had to go to Canada for a frame inspection. My Taco was approved and I'm waiting for my frame to be built and then I'll drive it up to Canada for the swap.

Look at the frame rails near the catalytic convertors for a hole. Do your own inspection before you take it to a dealer.

my sticker looks different... my understanding is the truck was brought into the US for sale but didn't sale here and was shipped to Canada where it was sold.....maybe it's actually a 2nd owner? i'll double check the report here in a bit... it has a Canada importation sticker but doesn't look like any of the stickers on any of my other Canadian spec toyotas, those stickers all look like the one you posted.

DMV and Toyota all use the vin #. It’s like it’s social security number. LOL

Yep, that's the info you need. Now you have confirmed that it was originally sold in the US and you are within the 12 years. Now go crawl under there and find a hole. Then ask in here what Toyota dealer in your area is good at doing frame swaps.

yeah, but i don't understand who is considered the first purchaser, is it the dealership or the guy who walks off the lot with it, can a dealership sell a truck to another dealership and have it count as the first purchase?

the truck was never titled in the US to a private owner, just the dealership.....that's why I'm confused...the toyota information when i enter the vin says texas but the titling history via carfax and the rest says Quebec.

i don't want to go into a dealership and start pushing for this unless i'm in the right....and in the right dealership...in the right country. lol

If you don’t have a 10mm hole, it doesn’t matter. Have you checked?

There ya go, take a sandwich and make a day of it. You could end up with a new frame if it qualifies.

i've had a look and there is rust under there that's been covered with a coating but why spend a couple of hours doing a VERY good job of inspection if nothing can be done about it other than worry and cry for the rest of the time i own the truck?

it's going to take a while as i said, the coating makes it hard to determine what's going on, i'll have access to a lift next week and i'll get it on a rack to check it out now that it sounds like i can actually do something about it besides kick myself.

thanks again for the help here man, i'd give you a cookie or toss ya bone if i could. lol

Yea, if the hole is not real obvious, then there not much you or a dealer inspection is going to find.
They aren’t going to remove any coating. There going to say it looks fine plus you have the protective coating. Have a nice day.

My dealer may or may not have punched a hole in my frame in order to replace it... I also may or may not have overheard them say they get a large sum of money from Toyota to perform the labor. I can attest that 2 days of labor for 2 men in that shop did not equal what they invoice to toyota. If it is then I’m changing careers. Seems to me like every dealership would be jumping on the chance to swap frames. They turn quick cash on it. But I don’t know jack.

Go to a different dealer who is more interested. My truck is the only one my dealer had done and I think they will never do another. My truck tied up one of their bays for weeks while they waited for the frame from Toyota.

What Muddinfun sez: That outfit has no idea what's going on. It's 12 years from date of first use. If there's a 10 mm hole, you get a new frame. Doesn't matter if it's been sprayed. Doesn't matter if you're in a 'cold weather state'. HOWEVER... I do not know anything about the Canadian terms, so if you're in Canada, poke around the forum - I believe there is a thread or two specifically regarding the Canadian settlement.
