I should've mentioned I was looking for 2nd gen dclb sliders, which seems like WK and other companies don't even bother with.

That’s odd white knuckle is the only company I’ve seen that do a u-bolt connection the frame and they are pictured on a bunch of second gens. However, I was thinking 3rd gen as well so I can’t speak to the availability of 2 gen sliders

I think it has to do more with the whole overlanding fad that's been sweeping the truck world recently. Sliders used to be something you put on your 20 year old truck so you could still open the door after a wheeling trip, and that target market has less disposable income than these guys who buy a brand new TRD PRO and budget another 10 grand for their "overland build" that never leaves the city. For them $1,000 for sliders is cheaper than the dealer installed floor mats they bought. With all that money now flying around the market you're gonna see a lot of price hikes.

Hmm. This thread is pretty neat. I never knew that those things help against door dings. I always thought they were completely pointless and just extra weight. I almost feel compelled to weld up my own set, but then again my truck is covered in rust debris from nonstop metal fabrication so I guess door dings are the last thing on my mind lol. My whole paint surface feels like 120 grit sand paper.

I got mine for the pretty spray patterns...

...And this extra tubing that keeps you from falling through and breaking a leg, which is nice. I imagine kick-outs would give you additional stand-off protection from dings as well, but I’m not gonna hang at malls to confirm.

True story when I had my YJ in college it was just 4wheeling or wheeling. Now if you have a cab or half rack in the bed with a tent it’s overlanding. I think some of these fabricators are making really good quality sliders like Mobtown and they are getting premium for it. A lot of folks will overpay for something that is trending and has a quality reputation

As for coatings, I'm just not that impressed with powder coat. I think it's fine on parts that don't take any abuse, but for things you'll want to touch up from time to time, I would strongly suggest painting them yourself. Then, you can touch them up as needed. After I painted mine, I put some skateboard tape on them in a couple of areas. Then, I painted over the tape with the same rattle can color. The tape blends in nicely and the paint covering took away some of the 'tooth' of the abrasive media. They still work great, but they don't grind the crap out of everything that comes in contact with them, including your leg.

I want to add that as a welder I hate powder coat finishes. I like many things about them myself too so I'm not one sided. But every time I gotta clean any off to weld or modify anything it's hell and clogs all the wire wheels and sandpaper flap discs. You can't burn it like regular paint and just clean wire brush it off. It turns into a nasty rubber mess. The gasses that come off while welding it or around it sometimes smell like WWI gas attacks. That's my two cents lol.

Yeah I’m starting to realize powder coating isn’t that great. My bed rack was powder coated and it’s not doing great
