But I need your guys advice? Drop down or keep it the same.. it’s my daily and I take it off the pavement every so often, camping and pulling that trailer 4-6 times a year...

Not sure how to help you with a decision..... What is driving you to contemplate tire sizes?

    Is it a mpg issue?
If so, how long will it take to get the saved fuel to pay for the cost of a new set of tires, mount, and balance?

Not MPG lol... but I know I can get a High Clearance Bumper and a CMC that might fix the rubbing issue and the tearing up my tires...

Pelfreybilt Front and Rear Hi-Clearance Bumper, Baja Designs Sport Fog Lights, Smittybilt winch, 285/75R16 BFG KO2, 3rd gen off road wheels, OME 2.5” lift w/Dakar springs, RCI Offroad sliders, ECGS bushing, spidertrax wheel spacers, remote start, vantrue dash camera
FWIW, I put 285/75R16s BFGs on post lift (old man emu) with a CMC and a hi-clearance bumper. If you are worried about fit, it’s probably in the alignment and/or upper control arms. Keep in mind I also did all this and STILL ended up mounting 1.25” spidertrax wheel spacers because at full lock I was still rubbing the aftermarket upper control arm. I tried to avoid wheel spacers, because I didn’t want to create a “weak” point on all 4 corners, but gave in and 10k miles later, all is well.

Highly debated subjects on Tacomaworld, (Tire size, lifts, control arms, wheel spacers etc) but that’s what worked for me. But I’d keep the tires and try the spacers.

If it’s a look thing a lot of Tacomas are running 255/85R16, just be aware there is a much more limited tire selection. Google ”tacomaworld tire size calculator” and play with the numbers to see what it will do for you.

The 285's are effectively changing your axle ratio from 3.73 to about 3.48 which is a handcap when pulling a trailer or loaded heavy. Not enough difference in performance or fuel mileage going to 275's to notice, maybe enough cost difference to be worth it . A 265/75/16 tire about as big as I'd run on a Tacoma unless I re-geared it. I like the 255/85/16 option too.

Yeah, I'd drop down but I'm old. I love the look of the wider tires but they are the gift that keeps on giving. Wider tires hurt your gas mileage and handle worse than narrower ones.
BUT, I recently switched from my 265s to 245s in a taller series to maintain my original overall diameter.
Again, I'm probably not in the majority here but I prefer function over form a little more every year.

You will likely not going to like the look of downsizing to 275/70/16s. That's a 31" tire. It will not look right with your current lift. It would be much easier to do a CMC.
