Dude it sucks super hard. My wife and I both just got really good jobs and the houses here are dirt cheap. Going to give it a few years to get all debt paid off and then bounce!

For people that are talking about losing contact with the flat pedals in bumpy terrain try dropping your heels (point toes up) more.

Good shoes and pedals help but good technique helps more: look at what BMXicans are running. Shiddy plastic pedals and Vans Waffle Grips and they are perfectly fine jumping.

This is why I recommend people start learning on flat pedals and hardtails. You learn real quick.

All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
@backcountryj i got a set of the chesters on the Bronson. I like them for the money, I have a hybrid big platform/clip in I like as well.
Take the pedals/shoes you normally ride in with you as well.

I ride with Five10 Freeriders and with my previous Wellgo cheap pedals and my current “composite” (aka plastic) OneUps they stick so well I often have difficulty readjusting my foot on the pedal. But the don’t lock you in vertically like SPD’s or even the toe clips I used back in the 80’s and early ‘90’s (yes, I’m old) so you do need to learn to weight your feet. But that’s good technique regardless of pedals. I used SPD’s for about 20 years but love the flats. Aside from everything else, for my feet the Freerider is very comfortable for riding and walking. My wife uses the Chester’s and they’re good pedals too.

The Chester’s and oneups seem to be the leading contenders for what I’m looking at.

Honestly I need to step back and replace my crooked saddle or the dropper that’s too tall for me before I put any money towards testing flats.

@Built2Ride I’m still a little bummed you won’t be able to join us next weekend. But I know you and the GA crew will have a good time on the river

Somebody has to make sure these fools don’t try section4, or hell section 3 for that matter.
I am brining all my gear, so maybe a raft and will be shuttling a few rides.
Picked up a new liquid logic ww boat, gonna hit some rapids while we are there ;)

They need a babysitter. Especially brad

What boat you get?? New playboat or a creeker? I always liked the outfitting on the LL boats. Not quite as comfy as the Jackson boats I had, but the LL hip pads made me feel more locked in and able to flick the boat around.

I rode 13 of the 23 miles of trails shown on the mtb project app solo. I saw deer, beavers, rabbits and squirrels. I was pretty tired at the end so if I saw a cat I'd woulda been Fuuuuucked. alot of climbing but the DH/flowy reward was worth it for me. I don't mind climbs though. there was one climb I attempted twice but no dice. George Bush climb. coming from Houston these types of trails are AMAZING in my opinion. there is a new DH section at the top of Slaughter Pen. if you jump really well you will love it. this wall ride looked nuts!!! the trails drain really well also so don't be afraid to ride if it's been raining.

It's all I got, man! Having the right shoes/pedal combo is paramount! (Just kidding, I have no idea about shoes, but flats are dope, especially when you've never ridden clipless). Just remember, heels down over the chatter/chunk and keep dat butt low... probably... it works for me.

    My current setup...

Got the RaceFace Chesters and the MTB saddle installed on the bike tonight. Going to try and take it for a spin on Sunday hopefully... but right now my Sunday is looking pretty full so doubt it will happen...

What in the goddam... That kind of snow doesn't usually come till Oct. Should be an interesting ride for sure.

Vans/Sambas and the Onceups will do you great to start. Tips: heels down in the rough, pump the bike, use the suspension, stay on the flats for a while before you ditch em. It's a steep learning curve, but totally worth it.

Oh, and if anyone's interested in the best flat shoe ever, I'm selling a pair of damn-near-new 5.10 Impact Pros. Tried them for a "ride around the block", wrong size.
    $100 (retail $160) Size 9.5

Looks like it may not melt off entirely by tomorrow. Snow ride!

Turns out our my 2 homies invited a few people. Any of you know TheMoreWeExplore/DustyBetty/HardtailParty from youtube? Apparently they are good friends on one of my riding buddies.
