looking at buying this 2002 tundra. Been in California it’s whole life but has a bunch of surface rust on the frame and bolts etc. I know it’s the rust inside the frame and at the joints that is dangerous. But anybody out there think this amount of rust is something to be concerned about? Or pretty typical?

It doesn't look too bad; take a hammer and chisel to it to verify perforation.

Looks typical. Check these frame areas:
    • Inside face of the frame rail next to the cats
    • Underside of the cab mount just aft of the front wheels
    • Leaf spring front hanger
Interesting how the truck has Kings in front but stock Bilsteins in the rear.

do you know if those areas get bad without drain hole blockage?

It might be registered in California since new but did it live there?

Maybe it belonged to someone who loved to surf fish and lived at the beach ??

Lots of surface rust Northern California ??
