    Yeah.
For a hardtail, that Sync'r isn't a bad value with your discount. For a FS, you need to step up to one of the Catch or Release models. That Atroz is more of a high-end big box store bike.

I can't afford/don't want to pay for high-end stuff at the level I'm at.

I'm not going to spend more than 1k on a bike personally.

Ok then don't, you just asked for opinions. You should buy used, then. You can find a lot of bike for the buck, lots of wealthy cyclists that offload bikes in great condition for cheap.

This is what I've been riding the last 2-3 years. I've upgraded the crank, chain, brakes, and rear tire. Super fun bike, and works great for the more flowy trail stuff around here. Its not as well suited for steep rock gardens, tight turns, jumps, and downhill, but its great for most stuff within 2-3 hours of my house.

And yes......I'm now a firm believer in 1x. Probably my favorite thing about this bike.

oh I wasn't saying I didn't appreciate your opinion lol, I'm open to any and all.

I just know all of you are more experienced/knowledgeable on this stuff so I come up with what I want/desire and ask here if it's a good deal/idea or not.

I've always considered going with a 1x(low #) for the trails I ride. I mean, 1x11 is pretty versatile, but several trails that I ride would setup well for a 1x3 or 1x4 (if such setups exist). But I go over to Bentonville, AR once a year, and really need the wider range.

So I had a bit of an “issue” with the rear Shimano 10sp derailleur. Today I forked over some cash for a Shimano 11sp RD-M8000 GS. Bike shifts like a champ now.

Kudos to Bicycle Cillage in Colorado Springs for helping me adjust it. They were also nice enough to point out the wedge in my headset was shift which was why the bars felt so sloppy. Replaced the plastic one from Trek with a metal one. It literally feels like a new bike. :)

Also, Jeremy from eThirteen got a hold of me and guided me towards a workable chainguide/bashguard. Super helpful and fast email responses!

    Good day of customer service.

That's always nice... New TV is buzzing and I have never had worse customer service when I called about it... got strait insulted over the phone... you win some you loose some. Those 1x's can be finicky to adjust, glad it worked out. Bike looks killer!

Went to this Park south of Colorado Springs called North Cheyenne Cañon Park.

It totally blew. Sand and loose gravel washed out the trail in some sections. Easy to lose grip. Try to jump something and your line is off then you will probably plummet down the side of the mountain.

Only nice part was this overlook.

Out of curiosity, as I'm looking to upgrade soon, have you noticed an issue with "spinning out" or running out of range on paths or between trails? Currently I'm torn between 2x9 and 1x11 on a 29er HT.

I never used my big chainring anyway (I think it was a 36T). So I went with a 30T RaceFace chainring with an 11-42T SunRace 10sp rear cassette. But if your worried about getting a low enough gear, you could go with a 32T. The 30T will be a little slower but have easier climbing.

The only problem I found was that my rear derailleur couldn’t meet the capacity. So I bought a Shimano M8000 GS (medium cage) 11sp derailleur. After getting dialed in, the shifting is flawless and it climbs like a dream.

I'm wanting a clutched rear to keep it quieter but I also am planning to do some riverfront rides as well. Pretty flat around here honestly so swapping up to a 32T is probably my best bet.

First off - I would suggest 1x no matter what. The weight reduction and simplicity is fantastic. I believe mine came with a 30T chainring.
Secondly - I haven't "spun out" as I very rarely pedal between trailheads. We did a little path riding between trailheads in Bentonville, but I never found my gearing problematic.
Thirdly - If you decide to go with 1x9, just make sure you have a large enough big sprocket to handle the super steep climbs. My stock 1x11 setup that came with my Timberjack has mostly been great for the wide range of stuff that I've done so far. The only thing I *might* do someday is go with a slightly larger max sprocket count, up from 46 to something slightly bigger.
