Should I just take a Saw'zall to the exhaust?

Did a solid 12 hours of wheeling yesterday and had a blast. Absolutely grew as a driver and learned a lot. I would say I got away with pretty minimal damage. At one point I obviously came down on my exhaust and crushed it into the shackle. Should I just cut it off where the pipe is facing downwards? @crashngiggles I think you have done this right?


Also, I bent the bolt that holds part of the @Mobtown Offroad slider. It seems like it's definitely the weakest point of an obviously robust system. I'm not too concerned if this would only be a problem if I ever needed to take them off. I'll worry about that if the time ever comes. I can't see this making them any less solid. They certainly got some use:

Lastly, I hit my driveshaft on something. I was at highway speeds today and didn't get any vibes. I think the scratches are just cosmetic.

Amazingly, I returned home with all four mudflaps which by all rights I should have ripped off long ago.

 

You may be able to get a tailpipe expander in there to pop that dent out. You can get one at Harbor Freight.

 

I'd just break out the sawzall. I cut mine off just behind the axle.

 

It will take more damage than that to restrict the exhaust flow !!!!!

Ever watch Road kill from HotRod magazine were they have a video series called engine masters ??? . On episode #4 they purposely smashed a set of headers with a sledge hammer . They severely dented ea header tube until the tubes were flat . They ran the engine on the dyno and there was no horsepower loss whatsoever

Why use a pipe expander when you have a small hole anyway. Just cut it off, or leave it if you want.

Besides at probably too dented in to even try and get the pipe expander in.

 

In high school I was riding w my buddy in his 1978 dodge magnum when his drive shaft came off, it was a bumpy ride to a stop Hahaha

 

I did, I just cut it off right before the bottom of the curved end. Absolutely no regrets that I did it either..

One of the main reasons why I did it on mine was for this exact reason. I had it happen to my old Dakota about 10 years ago and it pushed the tailpipe right up into my rear quarter panel. Fucked it right up.

 

You can always do a fender exit exhaust setup , then you can run bull horns

 

The axles dump ain't the problem. LoL!



That HF expander won't get you there though.

 

That exh turndown is pointed in the wrong direction , it should be angled towards the r /rear tire at about a 35° to 40° angle . Doing so will cancel out the exhaust drone and dust clouds from the exh pulse

 

Even though this isn't a Toyota Tacoma but my Camaro and 3.5 inch dia exh you can see how I've got my turndowns pointed

 

I get a bit of reverb at 1,500rpm. Otherwise, it is perfect. No need to mess. I have videos if you're curious.
