If you really wanted it. I could just take you with me for a trip? Just cover some of the gas and bait!

No picture unfortunately, but a short story instead. There’s a couple places along the OBX known mostly to local fisherman, this one particular place requires about a half mile walk in through the sand and dunes. It was about 7:30pm when I started the walk, keep in mind it’s blowing about 20-25 out of the NE so I’m getting sand blasted the whole walk thinking it’s just a waste of time. I get close enough to the water to hear what sounds like a locomotive coming straight to me. Luckily enough, it was a full moon, so I was able to see the 8-10 footers that they were calling for. Generally when drum fishing I start out with an 8oz weight, then move to 10oz and eventually a 12oz if I want to break my back. Anyway, my 8oz felt like dory was down there with my weight singing the “just keep swimming” song. So I go grab a 10oz, and that’s the only weight I don’t have in my bag. I decide to just continue fishing an 8 and walk with the current about 100-150yrds before I reel in and recast. On my 3rd cast I get a yearling about 33” or so. Ok, not bad, at least there’s fish. Once again I cast, only to hook into one of the largest drum I’ve caught and probably the largest from the beach for me. Takes about 15min to land, but walks me 400yrds down the beach. I don’t usually keep my phone on me to take pictures, and this time is was exception of course. So all I have are memories and a story to tell. As I was writing this though, I do have a picture of the yearling. Anyway, this was a huge accomplishment for me because of where it was and how dangerous this place can be to fish when it’s rough, but all in all, as the sticker on my truck says “waz worth it”.

I envy some of you that get to fish coastal waters a lot! Great pics of the NorCa, Texas, and NC coast fish.

Lol based on that, does seem like a warmouth. The problem is I can find images of both that look like this fish, though you are correct, I only see 3 spines on the anal fin. I should've just asked the damn thing what it was...
