@PackCon, I mean real research. Like pipette in hand, designing complex experiments, manipulating genomes to prove hypotheses, etc. Analysis is just analysis. You can run R, Sas, python, whatever floats your boat. Doesnt matter how much data analysis you do if you cant do the science to support your findings, which why I'm getting my PhD along with my MD. Mind you, this is coming from someone who is a profession bioinformatacist (I write a lot of software used for genomic sequencing experiments). I made these same points you did before I finally accepted I wasn't a real scientist. I have over 40 papers in print, and another 22 in various stages of peer review, many of them informatics based. If I combined the effort I put into all my informatics publications, it would not add up to the time, skill, intelligence, and creativity necessary to produce one of my wet-work papers. "Data scientists" are glorified fashion designers that spend their days obsessing over how a graph looks and the nuances of data types and the most obscure statistics to analyze them. After living that life for almost eight years, I cant be convinced otherwise. In spite of that, I think informatics needs to be taught to all biological science PhD students because of the push towards big-data.

It certainly is a nice feeling. My favorite part of the actual abs are the serratus. Those are tough to build and stimulate properly, and low BF is necessary evn more so typically... To get these out.

I definitely appreciate the differences in those research types. I did some research assistant stuff way back in the day in undergrad working with rats doing psych research. The lab thing is not for me. O Chem lab ruined me on that. In fact O Chem ruined a lot for me LOL.

Being into public health the overwhelming amount of research is going to be largely meta analyses type research. Epi and biostatistics can be heavily lab based. I’m intrigued by the data mining analytics. And I’m more interested in protocols, processes, and policy than anything else. Taking a current protocol and figuring out how the hell we can do it better. In essence getting your research to practice.
If I’ve got data from orthopods that tell me there is a better treatment path that insurance needs to cover or that insurance needs to encourage then let me take that data and make it happen on the policy end.

Like you tell me what causes cancers and what ways policy can help prevent those cancers and I will help do that implementation.

Not that any one is better or worse but they are different. The world would be worse off without both.

I love data mining and analytics. It blows my mind how much valuable research can be done with almost endless amounts of data that has already been collected.

I can sit in my office in my basketball shorts and hoodie discovering new things about the world without ever having to talk to another human being. Its very appealing to me. :)

I remember when it used to be that fun. Then you start lying to yourself about it, but you recognize it isn't that fun. Then you just openly miss interacting with people. Then the incredible progress and workload you once were able to do because you were so excited about your works falters, and slowly and disappointingly settle back down into mediocrity. Save your code, build pipelines to automate your workload, learn to run everything in parallel. That has saved my ass so many times. Then, I can be "working" and just go take the day off to clear my head. No one knows the difference as long as the work its getting done.

Do you have any thoughts on Krill Oil (or anyone else)? I've been looking to make the switch after years of fish oil... The benefits of krill are outstanding (according to the research) however, the price is also.... matching...

@PackCon We should start our own thread and keep this one clear of all our gossip-girl bantering. PS - recession is coming cuz the wall street journal told me so! I am finally getting a broker so I can alleviate myself from some decision making responsibilities in life. Fuck I need that.

I have not educated myself on krill oil yet. I have noticed that the quality of fish oil has gone down in the last few decades since it's popularity has risen. I wonder its just a quality sourcing issue?

It’s probably more of a “this is popular let’s make a shitty product and put it out there and market the shit out of it” type thing. Just like CBD

Just a quick search does support some benefit of krill oil over fish oil
    https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22923017

Seems to be based on differences in DHA and EPA, but it doesn't look like it's translating to humans
    https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/26328782

These are puny lil studies, not sure much can be said. I'll need to keep looking. Honestly, based on the price discrepancy, I'd just double the fish oil.

With proper discounts and location and buying in bulk, I can get a 1 month supply for $1/serving. Hard to say really.

As you know I am very serious about what I put into my body so I do like to research before hand. I put alot of shit into this and it's vital for me to have the best supplements I can get.

I've cycled off fish oil for months and weeks at a time and never once noticed a difference. Could be bad fish oil - could be that I don't take enough, could be I just cannot physically tell a difference. I dunno.

Ive never heard of anyone "noticing" anything with fish oil. It acts on lipid metabolism and is typically used as a preventative measure against atherosclerosis. Because of this, it has strong correlations with increasing longevity and decreasing cardiovascular morbidity. In high enough doses it can increase dopamine signaling in your prefrontal cortex, which will help with decision making.

    I would keep researching.

...and this is where our friendship ends

I’m searching around to find an investment pro I can trust. When the house is done we need a wealth manager. Investments and all the laws make my head hurt.
Maybe @ThunderCookies can help us out as hes the finance pro.
I take double dose Fish and Flaxseed oil, I swear the difference in inflammation and joint lubrication is noticeable.

    Similar to glucosamine and chondroitin

I got one. I'm happy with them so far. I bombarded them with all my questions and they talked me down from doing all the stupid shit I read about, and they don't charge very much - less than 1%. So, made sense.
