Holy Grail is mostly just silly and rather hit or miss at that. The autonomous collective scene is one of the better parts:

Really for Monty Python the least silly and most genuinely funny one is The Life of Brian.

Just from the seremon on the mount scene...

    Actually good comedic writing:
[Too far from seremon on the mount to hear well]
    Rich merchant: “What was that?”
Onlooker: “I think it was blessed are the cheese makers.”
Rich merchant’s wife: “What’s so special about the cheese makers?”
Rich merchant: “Well obviously it’s not meant to be taken literally. It refers to any manufacturers of dairy products.”

    Jokes with decent historical context:
[Later from a resistance group leaving the sermon]
“Well blessed is just about everyone with a vested interest in the status quo.”
“What Jesus blatantly fails to appreciate is that it’s the meek that are the problem.”

There are a few stupid silly parts but mostly it is really well done and incisive. Particularly good if you’ve suffered through any sort of parochial education.

Oh, and if you made the mistake of taking Latin:

Or.... it would have been funny if the internet hadn't ruined it all.

The actual movie is still great fun... saw it on one of those flashback Sundays at theater last year.
