I would be willing to bet they are just get dishonest service advisers in, Guy brings vehicle in for oil change good chance they are not looking at brake pads. Probably has a prompt in the computer after a certain amount of miles, and they tell you your bakes need changed. Crazy thing is I have a history with the dealership that did it to me and they are usually quite honest. I’ve been in the back with the mechanics trying to trouble shoot vibes on my Tacoma, usually get any service I’m to lazy to do at that one and purchased the wife’s 4Runner there and they have always been straight up and fair with me.

Hey man, that's good to hear. I never remember hearing about any dealership described as quite honest or straight up & fair. I knew there has got to be some somewhere, I'd just never heard of them. Thanks

My dealer always does their long multi point inspection with every service. At checkout they hand me a sheet with everything on it that they inspected, and next to each item is a set of green, yellow, and red squares with check marks pertaining to the condition of the item that was inspected. When they put my brakes in the yellow, they let me know it would be due soon. I agreed after seeing for myself, but knew I could wait another 10k before I started shopping around for parts. I did them myself with maybe 20k left on the pads. I wouldnt call my dealer a thief or a liar, they simply warned me that my brakes were getting low and to consider replacement in the near future.

If you rotate tires as a person should do, checking is easy and gives you plenty of advance warning that a brake job will be coming up.

No I’m in the Tampa area. That’s unfortunate that it happened to you as well.

The OP's dealer telling him he needs brakes now, like they were close to failure point, would absolutely be wrong. If thats how they presented it.
