Buy the one that meets the requirements as stated in your owner's manual, and the one that you feel better about using. It's your truck and your the one paying the bills. Everyone will have their own preference of oil. Name brand! Synthetic! Semi Synthetic! Conventional oil! etc!

This thread is gonna start a fight....

    1. Choose an oil YOU like.
    2. Choose a quality oil filter (Toyota is now sold at Walmart)
    3. Change it when YOU think it’s best or follow the MFG recommend interval which coincides with tyre rotation...every 5k
    4. Don’t believe hype or hearsay “evidence”.
Of which you will find on this forum and soon to be on this thread.

There are way to many myths about oil and way too many “master keyboard mechanics” here.

Just remember, there is no such animal as full synthetic for under 30 bucks a qt.

I am out now before the ban hammers swing and the children start pissing in each others cheerios.

Good luck, you’re gonna need it..

Generally speaking, full synthetic is superior to 'conventional' oil. syn oil has less impurities; better at resisting oil breakdown; better at withstanding higher engine temperatures; and flows better at lower ambient temps. Over on the oil analysis thread, synthetic oil analysis' consistently show it can last 7000+ miles. I used to change my syn oil at 10K; but after 150K, I now go 8K, or one year.

Yea there's going to be a shittonne of different responses here. My opinion is as long as it's the recommended weight and you change it regularly you can use just about everything, the truck won't care. Cold climates may benefit from a synthetic, but cars have been running conventional in the cold forever.

Now, for me I run Castrol Edge 0w40 (synthetic). Why? Simply I keep a good bit around as my GTI and SLK use the same oil. It's on the thinner side of a 40wt anyways. Butt dyno says the truck is fine with it. There's huge debates on brands, but honestly I just use what I keep extra on hand.

No, it is highly refined group 3 Dino oil base stock, better than group 1 and 2 but only group 4 and 5 are actually synthetic oil.

There are only a couple in the USA for motor vehicles, the stuff is 30 bucks a quart.

Now I’m really out. Oil threads start grade school playground fights. Please use the internet and search for the truth.

If you watch the sales and rebates
Mobile 1 can be as low as $16.99 for 5 qts.

I’ll just answer your question directly

full synthetic, always, in every American or Asian vehicle.
Euro cars sometimes will be picky about other types.

I use synthetic in my BMW and after 5k I drain it out of there and put it in my tacoma, I do put a new filter on the tacoma though. This isn't non detergent oil from the 40's so I don't see why everyone gets so worked up about it every other week.

The term "full synthetic" does not mean what it sounds like. After the Mobil vs Castrol lawsuit and other nonsense, this term now refers to a performance standard, not the actual content of the product. Sad but true. In other words, "full synthetic" is not synthetic but it performs like an actual synthetic... sort of... but not really.
Every other country in the world is laughing at the U.S. because our laws allow such false advertising: full synthetic is not full synthetic. But as long as you know this before buying oil, you'll be OK.

Put dish soap in, it washes the engine from all the carbon and built up stuff. Should run perfect afterwards o_O

OP... Dino oil for the 4.0. or Molasses works as well.

I'm not sure if what you just wrote is serious or not. The 5k then transfer to the Tacoma thing.
