    how long before you had to change the first one? (if you remember)

    i don't know how long the approximate lifespan is on the original, i am sure it will go out someday
    but its probably not a bad idea to have a new one on hand, and perhaps even have a shiny new part in the engine compartment amongst all the weathered worn looking parts lol
    i have been looking into CO2 dry ice blasting to clean metal parts up in there from the humidity and probably roadspray

    Buying one today. Planning on throwing a winch on at some point.

    Will the stock alternator harness still be okay with this alternator when you're really pushing it?

    Don’t remember, too many years ago, if your worried you can just replace the brushes for 15.00,
    But a 105 amp that’s with new bearing is the ticket

    Ordered. Tax was $12, so the discount was able to cut some of that.

    Total was $150.48.

    Apparently you can get a discounted shipping label through RockAuto, but I would expect shipping to eat into most of the core return.

    Is it possible to change the clock of the positive battery connection on the new alternator to match the OEM clock? Like clock the whole back part?

    For some reason I was under the impression that a TRD of our vintage (mine's an '04) had a higher output alternator but I might be mistaken.

    I doubt it. Do the "big 3 upgrade"... The bigger gauge wires will increase the amps flowing to your battery even with just the stock alternator, but the higher output alternators will smoke those little stock wires.

    But for heavy winching, I'm not sure a 105 amp unit would be up to the task (definitely do the Big 3 if you winch). It's better than stock, sure, but I've seen alternators from Jags, Cadillac, etc... in the 130+ amps range that are used more often.

    I'm not an expert but I would say probably you would not have to because there was an 80 amp alternator as an upgrade so you're talking about 20 more amps that the wires what have to carry on full load and I'm sure the 60-amp would have had the same wires as the 80 amp. If you have a winch part of the system that changes the equation because of how many amps it draws and that will vary from which to winch

    I still have the stock alternator, and I plan on doing the big 3. And if that's not enough (I have my doubts it will be given my winch), I'll have plenty of room, wire size-wise, to throw whatever alternator I want on it.

    It's a similar theory as the upgraded wire harness for the "proper headlight upgrade". My headlights got brighter (ish) even though I kept the same lights when I did the upgraded wire harness because it had more "room" for the current to flow.
