In the forums experience, what is a reasonable time to expect a build date or ship date from the sales staff when you "order" or put a deposit down on the new model year?

My frustration is that I put the deposit down and my sales guy just keeps saying he'll get me the info, he'll get me the info and then doesn't.

I'd rather have him say it will be several months because.......and then list excuses. Maybe they really don't know what they will be allotted. I get that. Just say that.

The wife thinks I should just go to the highest volume dealer in the state and be done with this smaller dealership.

When the "order" was placed the other sales guy that was putting it in the computer wasn't happy because, as he called it, it would be a "trade down" for them because I want a MT.

Getting close to pulling the plug on these guys.

i had to do the dealership dance and redo the deposit to get mine. it was the first 3rd gen MT Pro delivered in Texas 3 years ago, so there was a line for it 5 months before it showed. so i had to keep up with the sales guys and track the allocation. it was originally allocated for one dealer, then the allocation plan changed and it went to another dealer. i had to refund and redo the deposit for the new dealer. then i got lucky, the first 2 depositors before me couldn't do the wait so i ended up getting MT Pro allocation #1 5.5 months later.

this all was hinged on good & straight communication with the original sales guy. not sure i would have been able to keep it together if the salesman wasn't helpful.

My sales guy just keeps saying he’ll get me the info tomorrow but never delivers. Others have told me they can look out 45 days at their allocations and see if they are even supposed to get one.

My guy just doesn’t look like someone who is checking daily to see if it’s out there.

what you need is a guy that will take you to his private cubicle and show you the allocation on the computer. that's exactly how i knew i was 3rd in line, there was 5 of us depositing, the colors, the trans, and the dealer target. your salesman is weak. ask to see the allocation and make that his last chance. you need more help or you may miss it.

I am afraid you are right. They don't make many MT to begin with.

Yeah listen to the wife. Go to a higher volume dealer. If this guy cant communicate that he simply doesnt know. Then be wont be communicative about anything in the process.

I’ve gone through the process twice now. 2-6 months is the usual wait time. I’d definitely visit the high volume dealer or even go out of state. Typically the larger dealers will have 2+ allocations for pros (dependent on their volume), the smaller dealers will have 1 or none.

Army green is a Pro only color I believe. It looks like your in the Seattle area with the name! You might try calling and asking for the new car manager and he’ll be able to get you more detailed info. Or you could pull your deposit and go to another store. I sell cars just not at a Toyota store. If you have any questions feel free to message me!

I went through the same hassle for a 2016 SR5. Finally took something else that came in that was close. Glad I did in this case, but the point is they are NOT going to order the vehicle you want. They are only going to check allocation. Could be a month, could be 6, could be never. They want your money, so will continue to string you along. Go to the big dealer.

Sometimes the saying the harder I work the luckier I get rings true. Where I live they almost never/never get manual Pros. I ended up searching high and low and found one up by you in Washington and drove it 900 miles home. Buying in a different state is a little bit of a hassle, but worth it to get what you want. Just make sure they don't pull a fast one one you.

I assume you're looking for an auto so here you go (verify because they are notorious for mislabeling and there are no pictures):

500 miles from you in AG: https://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/detail/787598925/overview/
    - No sales tax in Montana which is nice, but Washington is going to want their cut when you being it back over.

540 Miles from you in Reno. Have some buddies who have had a decent experience buying from Dolan. https://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/detail/786645210/overview/

Out of curiosity what dealership are you trying to work with and did you try Michael's Toyota in Bellevue?

I’m looking for a MT and working with my local dealer Toyota of Puyallup. I really like Michaels. They offer a lot of other service options that most don’t but they won’t budge on price. Toyota of Puyallup has me at $1000 off MSRP.

I over heard the convo between my salesman and the guy that finds the cars or orders and he was disappointed to have to trade down for the MT.

Not sure if allocations is still how pros are done, but if so, it takes a while. It might not be in the system, it might, they probably wont swap either with another dealer. If you can wait, go for it. Last time it took me about 6 months to get it just the way I wanted (MT all the way).

When I ordered my Truck the dealer explained to me that they only build MT Tacoma's about once every 3 months and they build as many as they expect to last until the next run. Because of that it depends where your order falls in their build cycle, I ordered my Truck at Thanksgiving of 2016 and didn't get it until the end of March 2017.

Yes, Michaels is good if you want that custom look with dealership warranty coverage. Great call on the manual! The ironic part is that even though the manuals are marked marginally cheaper on the MSRP the dealerships could arguably charge more because of the scarcity of them. Did the rough math 245,000 produced a year so only 12,250 manuals (5% production rate). Couple that with approx. 5,000 Pro's and only 250 are manuals. Divide by the four Pro colors and there are only going to be 63 AG's out there.

Honestly would love to get my hands on an AG MT Pro and that would be the only setup I would make the jump for. However, love my current setup and just cant justify the cost hit in my mind.

If you want it bad enough there is one 1,400 miles from you in AZ and to my knowledge it's the only manual AG out there. https://www.hatchtoyota.com/auto/new-2020-toyota-tacoma-trd-pro-v6-show-low-az/40366164/

Holding tight right now with my "order". Says he can get the truck but they all say that.

I'm hoping all the people who may be ahead of me want the AT and my guy will scoop up the MT when it appears. Finger crossed.
