I have been running full tanks and normally the same filling station if not the pump. I only have 1300 miles so I’m not quite ready to jump off the bridge. Several tanks calculated out to well below 15mpg and I’m driving carefully. Our Mazda 6 computer is similar to how you describe your Ford. Our ford Transit is almost always a full mile per gallon optimistic but consistent. The Toyota has be super jankey with readings all over the map but optimistic for sure.

I went up 5psi on the Duratrac stock size tires (from 30 to 35psi) early on and I think that helped. I did not buy this truck for fuel economy reasons but I expected it to be better. Up to the last tank, our Transit T250 143”wb with a medium roof has out performed the Toyota under similar conditions. I’m wanting to blame the tires which seem to great great traction. The Tacoma hardly needs 4wd. Out Transit van gets stuck in the driveway. (I’m not kidding about that at all).

I have been trying to eek out good MPG, as a game basically. When I do the same on the other vehicles I do fine (Mazda 6 32mpg and T250 Ford 18mpg). The Toyota is calculating out at about 15. I have seen under 200 miles for a whole tank, that’s close to 10mpg but I was towing some (2000 lb cargo trailer for half the tank). I may drive like crap and I’ll change my bad Toyota driving habits if that’s the issue but what I do seems to work on our other cars. I traded a ‘98 Ranger 2wd 4cyl that always got 20mpg even driving like a knuckle head getting 300miles and up on 15 gallons easy. I don’t expect that but 220 miles out of over 20 gallons is a bit disappointing.

My computer display seems whacked to me. I suck at math but 19mpg “average” with the best mileage ever at only 17mpg, I just can figure. I reset my trip meter at fill up and divide the miles driven by the gallons used, every tank.

We live in the same area. You will have to give me some driving lessons! I’m not driving in town or in rush hour. A typical trip is from home on the south eastern side of asheville to Zirconia where my son lives. I only used pinnacle mt road once, I promise :)

No one buys these for great mpg, but they are notoriously shitty. I don't drive hard at all, only have a tire upgrade to 265s and can barely get 20 mpg straight highway at 70mph. Super unimpressed, full sizes get better now a days.

My 16 year old Frontier with 33's, 6" lift, steel bumpers, and 295K miles got about the same mileage I get out of this thing with only adding 285's and a small lift. o'well, I love pretty much everything else about the truck so I'll live with it.

I'm suprised how terrible the MPG gets with a small lift and modest tires. I was planning on doing a lift and 33s, but not after reading up on it. I like it well enough now

I got back from a trip to Cincinnati Sunday night. I averaged 18.5 to around 19.5 MPG the trip.

Not a lot of level ground, and I wasn't driving anywhere near the speed limit.

You must be in the Biltmore/Oakley/Reynolds area then? Maybe we will meet up one day. I work in Arden on my day job, run service calls in my second job.

Love Pinnacle mtn road. During my Honda days i used to take my cars on a loop from there back down the other side.

You will never get that mpg on 26 through Asheville. These trucks will only get that mileage on side roads going around 45 to 55 mph.

The first picture was a drive from Fletcher area to Hendersonville. The second was a drive from Arden down 191 to Hendersonville.

You have to catch all the lights green, be in 6th gear by 35 mph and accelerate stupid slow all the time. Take advantage of down hill and use momentum to get up hills.

Set your cruise to 65mph and make sure you have stock tires.

Before adding a camper shell I got noticeably better fuel economy on highway. Tacomas seem to drop off quickly on fuel economy with any payload.

My 06 4runner with roof rack, lift and 10 ply sidewall TKO IIs was getting about 12-13 city. So far my Tacoma is getting 15 stock and I’m driving more conservatively...I just crossed 100 miles and I’m sure it was idling a lot on this tank as it was hot AF when I was getting the run through of all technology stuff. I’m hoping to see 18 range after a few tanks, maybe that’s optimistic.
