    I love it. I’m not a “going off jumps” type rider so a hard tail is fine for me.

    Look him up, Rick Hunter is a extremely talented builder, he’s been at it for a long time

    That bike is on my short-list to ride actually along with Rockhopper Expert 1X, Fuse 27.5+ and Giant Talon 2 (a 2x9) and Fathom 2.

    Thank you for the info. Mine may be used for some winter riding (urban) as well as paved paths. Gearing up the front for those seasons seems easy enough if warranted.

    Same here. Mostly climbing and not dropping. Love the 1x set-up and the Chris King headset and Fox shocks.

    Now that I’m seeing your bike you really need to check out Rick hunter. He’s from Santa Cruz- he actually just moved 2 weeks ago but he was in the same spot in Davenport for 15 years

    If it’s flat, maybe the 30T is better? The 32T chainring would be better for climbing. Not that a 30/32T difference would be that noticeable?

    Don’t think they have made any recently, but the “New World Disorder” series by Freeride entertainment are badass. I grew up watching them in high school, have most on dvd but I think they can be found on YouTube now

    My 1x2 = 34t biopace narrow wide chainring with cassette hub set up with a 16t and13t cog as middle as possible for straightest chain line using single speed conversion spacers and a chain tensioner. There is no shifter....the chain is moved over by manually and chain line alignment done by adjusting tensioner pulley in or out. Chain tensioner only allows for 3t variation max but you can pick whatever cogs work best most often as long as no more than 3t different. I thought about doing 2x up front with front derailleur being shifter with single cog and tensioner out back but it didn’t try that yet. The chainrings would probably have to be within 4t of each other as well so the tensioner could do it's job and not be dropping chain from being too slack on smaller chainring. Something like 28/30 with 15 or 16t cog. Just something I played around with on this weirdo hybrid staggered wheelset thing with flared drops and fat knobbies. Woks fine, just has to be set ahead of time for flatter or hillier ride. Just takes 1 of the 3 allens usually in my camelbak and a minute to adjust.

    I have always been under the understanding that less teeth=easier spin/lower speed and vise versa going up in size (teeth).

    Yeah more teeth in the front=faster/harder, fewer teeth=Slower/easier. Assuming the same cassette.

    One thing that you could do is change out the chainring to get some different overall gearing for urban riding.

    Also, something to note about the Timberjack. Its a super fun bike, but not particularly smooth. It vibrates quite a bit more than my Trek X-Cal; I think due to the aluminum frame. Maybe not a big deal on snow or loose dirt, but if you're doing a lot of rocks, its a fairly rough ride (assuming your tire pressure is relatively high for riding on large rocks).

    I thought the same thing but ended up going back to the Fuel EX+. There's plenty of stuff around here to take advantage of the Remedy's travel, if the rider is willing and able. Sadly, that's not me, and the Fuel has all I need. The Remedy doesn't really "wake up" until you are at higher speeds on rough stuff, the Fuel is better balanced for all-around riding.

    You could get a 29" wheelset for the Fuel and drop the mino link to the lower setting. That is what I have considered doing for something a bit different.

    Is your Timberjack a 27.5 or 29? I noticed they offered both in 2019. That said, right now the only 27.5 I'm considering (and my local dealer can't get one right now) is the '20 Fuse 27.5+ and grabbing some 29" rims and keeping the plus for winter fatties.

    ...edit: or "mullet" it out.

    27.5+ I got the SLX build, I believe. But I've upgraded a lot of stuff since then - the crank and the brakes are the biggest upgrades.

    Picked up my first cross country/downhill bike in August. Haven’t been able to ride yet because of a shoulder injury that ruined my summer! Plan on hitting the local ski hills next summer.     I think you would still have fun using one as a park bike. DH and long travel bikes are generally a bit more expensive, so people hold on to them a bit longer. But, not sure you can easily find a new model that comes with 26" wheels. Seems most of the pros go with either 27.5 or 29 depending on their size, with some in-betweeners going for a mullet setup, especially on really steep stuff.

    Trek seems to sell the Remedy as their 27.5 bike, Slash as the 29er.
