    I agree

Finally getting my strength all back again. Been doing the 5x5 workout every other day to gain my core strength back. Find myself wanting to workout again which is nice. Last time I was on a roll like this I got the concussion so let’s hope that or something else that would otherwise inhibit my ability to workout doesn’t happen again

Gotta buy chalk or straps. Sweaty hands and deadlifts suck.

I’ve been trying to get a feel for the hook grip and doing lighter weight after they told me my form was trash a month or so ago. Just doesn’t feel right

Have you tried just a mixed grip? We're talking deadlift right?

It will never feel “right” it hurts and is uncomfortable. BUT my partially torn left shoulder can’t handle mixed grip so it’s pretty much my only option. You get used to it not feeling good

Hook grip is more for Olympic lifts. If you have trouble doing mixed grip than just use straps. If you aren't competing in powerlifting it won't make a difference. Plus you can train grip in other ways than standard deadlifting.

Finally benched #315 last night. I only planned for #295 because that was already a 10# PR. I was satisfied with that. Except... I put up 295 like it was 185... My spotter laughed he's like LOL OK.

So I was excited and put 3 plates on that bitch and hammered out 315 for 1. Fuck yea. First ever attempt at 300 let alone 315. Bam... Excited to see where I can go this off season. Strength has only just begun... 500-550 carbs doing it's work.

Yea...... no. Easier to pull hook grip than get setup using straps. Hook grip is perfect for (subjectively) heavy pulls so long as you aren’t a bitch about it.

Y’all are feisty lol. I probably should do some grip exercises but my hands were sweaty so the bar was slipping out. Did 4x5@315. Baby weight I know but I’m trying to get my form down and comfortable with deadlift.

chalk would’ve fixed it but we don’t have any at the gym so I’ll need to invest in some.

    Andddd congrats on the 315!

I’ve never fully understood the “hook grip is for Olympic lifts” argument? They just use it because it’s effective.

What’s your argument for using straps vs. hook grip? No discomfort?
