I almost got TRD GEN. But then I thought I would get tired of explaining it to people.

I dont understand why anyone would want to give the government anymore money to waste. Get a bumper sticker or have the member in Hawaii make you a custom sticker.

If you got the plate would you de-badge all the other OEM "Tacoma"

Go for it if it makes you happy. I would personally would vote no

Custom yes, r-plate nah. Its too early to tell how secure those really are and whether someone can exploit or hack. Cut the wrong person off in traffic and all of a sudden your plates change to "BALLSACK"

Here its an extra 30 bucks on top of annual registration to get a specialty plate, and 40 bucks more to get it customized.

I cheaped out and just got the uncustomized specialty plate for the trailer, haven't done the truck yet.

My plates read GN4WHLN. I've had them since 1990 and they have been on several trucks and in several CA plate backgrounds. For a long time they were Yosemite plates but CA kept bumping the fees so I went back to the standard plate. I would like the Black and yellow plates but I heard CA discontinued them. My wife has MTS CALL (As in, The mountains are calling and I must go - John Muir) on her JK in the black and yellow. Black and yellow would look great on my QS truck. Stupid California.

agree, this sums it up nicely...why give the govt more than we already do. And of course your plates are easier to recognize if you somehow run afoul of local traffic laws

I have a custom black and yellow CA plate on mine . I think I can pony up the additional $0.10 a day for the increased cost of the vanity plate haha.

I think what's more ridiculous is that we have to pay commercial license fees for all pickup trucks on top of normal registrations regardless of what they are used for.

I'll have to look into that. I had heard a group of classic car people sued CA over those plates and won. The basis of the suit had to do with original black and yellow plates and classic vehicles. It didn't make a lot of sense when I heard it because I would think the state has the right to issue any plate design it desires. I couldn't understand (from what I heard about it) how these people had any standing to sue at all.

Yes the black and yellow plates were originally to be for only classic cars and trucks . Also the blue and yellow plates were also for classic cars and trucks but those plates never materialized

I was so hoping the blue and yellow plates would come true as it's more period correct for my 72 Camaro

The black and yellow plate which was originally offered from 1963 to 1969 just doesnt look good on my Camaro

I'm not sure on the logistics about it but all I know is if you want the black and yellow legacy plates you can get them from the state. If you have a period correct car you can still put on an original plate from the 60's maybe that's what the classic car guys were talking about. I'm not sure

Simple, so you can have a personalized plate.

That makes sense if the intent were cars that would have originally had a black and yellow. Too bad they never followed through on the blue and yellow. I've had plenty of cars from those periods with black/yellow, blue/yellow plates and always changed them for a personalized plate. I never thought anything of it because it wasn't a big deal to have the original plates. Now, I wish I had some of those cars and the plates.
