Plenty of room in the market for top $ ARs

DD rifles don't have a problem selling

Colt doesn't want to listen to customers or add actual value to their $1000 rifles

Just another tick in the bad business decisions column for them

On the upside, if they eventually go belly up, the guns that are out there are gonna get stupid money for them

What exactly adds value to an AR? Spiders and skull logos? The pony on the side?

A bad business decision is paying thousands of dollars for a DI AR. They are all the same...

Should I get a Ruger American standard in .308 for $270 or spend the extra money for a Predator in 6.5 creedmoor for $405?
Decisions decisions just want a cheap bolt action rifle that is good to 500 yards. It would be nice to say I have a 1000 yard gun but I will realistically never shoot those distances.

*edit just did a quick google search and the answer is a no brainer predator is the way to go.

Agree. The crazy part is the delivery of the news and the twist that was put on the business decision.
Also probably helped sell some rifles when the news broke.

When I began my search for a rifle, Colt was at the top. A military manufacturer selling to civilians seemed dependable and reliable.
The more I learned the easier it was to see the much better options out there.

I've qualified on the range with a military colt m-4 shot a million times that shoot way better than
any $400 dollar AR-15. Cheap AR-15's are great when you want to drink beer and shoot water jugs
with your home boys. When I'm down range fighting for my life I'll take my Colt M-4 any day. :oldglory::infantry:

It's all about the barrel. I have some colt stamped AR 556 barrels. They don't hold a candle to any top tier blanks. Lothar Walther, shlien, armalight are all far superior.

Irrelevant when it comes to military weapons. The barrels are all typically gauged annually. Personal weapons are gauged only during/after manufacturing. Your issued rifle will almost always out perform your personal one because it is kept within spec.

There’s also a huge difference in buying something like high point vs. DPMS, Daniel Defense or S&W. Also consider the fact that when is the last time you’ve used your personal rifle with the same abuse they get when Marines or Army use ours? You can’t compare something that hasn’t even had the opportunity to be fully tested to the extent Colt has. They just happen to be who gets most the contracts.

Hell, when I think about it, in 20 years of service I’ve was only issued Knights Armament M16s and M4s. So by your reasoning, I couldn’t trust Colt either.

That being said, don’t buy the cheapest thing out there and there really shouldn’t be any concerns.

"Mil-spec" is a low bar, not a high bar. Many people don't really understand that.

Never said milspec was the best out there, not by a long shot. I did say that they are gauged annually which ensures proper barrel specs. I guess I didn’t quite mean “out-perform” all personal ARs, although I did say almost always. Just in relation to performance after extreme abuse, which is not typical to personal weapons. I for one would not take my personal rifles through the same environments or scenarios my issued ones were.

Additionally milspec certainly isn’t the low bar either though. More of a happy medium in regards to durability. Companies don’t get continued contracts if their product doesn’t perform to certain standards, which is defined by the term “milspec.” That could me 1” MOA or 100” MOA. That could mean 200 rounds without a misfire or 4000. It just depends on the definition at the time of production and testing. I will say that over the course or multiple deployments, hundreds of missions and thousands of hours in real life use; I have never felt it to be the low bar. None of my M4s, M249s, M240Bs or M2s have ever failed me or my me when needed.

Of course we might be on the same page in regards to the comment I was responding to.

The 6.5 creed isn’t as great as you would be lead to believe at 1000y. If you can dope your drop and wind then you can make the same shot with a 270

Correct. It’s a list of standards that manufactures are required to meet as part of a government contract. As I stated. Additionally, those standards will never be set at the lowest possible quality. It is a quality thing though, as in quality of manufacturing to achieve said standards and specifications. So not really sure what point you are trying to make.

I also never once said civilian uppers or lowers aren’t quality items. In fact there are plenty of better items that you can get in the civilian market. Maybe actually read everything being said.

The only point I’ve attempted to make was that milspec is a fluid standard defined at the time of approved contracts and that it’s not going to be super low quality but more of a medium quality when compared to other like items.

Btw- none of this includes “milspec” that some company put on a box. I mean actual military issued items. If you haven’t actually used it for extended periods, then you probably have no clue what those items can be put through or withstand and still maintain zero or fire repeatedly.

What's the milspec accuracy standard for a M4 nowadays? It was 5moa. Not exactly a high bar ;-)

And yet I’ve never had any of my guys shoot 5 moa. I mean if you were a cook or pack clerk you might’ve seen a 5 moa in your once a year range.

Again, it’s a minimum manufacture guideline. Most times those are exceeded. You’re also getting caught up thinking I said it’s the best out there. Just saying it’s not the low bar either.
