Ok Just realized how much lift I’ve lost in the front from the bumper and winch and the coilover breaking in

 

Dang I knew I should have asked more for mine

 

Yup. It sucks. Reason I broke down and bought coilovers. Saw my 5100s sagging and I had the 620 lb springs installed. Never looked back though after I upgraded.

 

Lol. You got a lift installed. I don't feel bad for you.

 

but you've said yours isn't a newer one right? at least I thought.

 

Well my eibachs have 3 more lift heights, two of them specifically for if you have a winch and bumper so I’m gonna donthat I guess next weekend and see how that does

 

Just watch out for that coil bind. May not be a factor, but something to consider.

 

Coil bind? What is that and what causes it?

 

Going up to a higher notch, will compress your coil spring more, which doesn't give your spring much room to compress anymore to absorb shocks. In other words, it will make for a harsher ride.

 

Its when the coil compresses so much that the coils themselves touch and bottom out before the shock does. Excessive preload will cause this.

But if weight is causing the spring to compress more on the bottom notch and the spring is designed to go up to the 3rd notch with added weight to achieve the height of the first notch with no weight...is it really going to compress the spring more than when it was on the first notch with no weight?

Yes. You're moving that preload higher up in the stroke of the shock. That's what will give you that lift you need back. So you've got less "coil travel" with the same amount of shock stroke as when you didn't have the bumper and winch.

They'll last if you don't add a whole bunch of weight. I have 5100s on my 2nd gen, which have about 175K miles on them. They are riding pretty rough right now! lol

 

Plan on SSO slimline bumper that's it for now

 

Just get a higher rated spring to go with those 5100s. I'm running factory springs with mine. You can get the OME 88X for the extra weight of bumpers, skids, etc.
