I don't understand the logic behind eliminating the dipstick. Can't be a cost saving procedure because now there's a sensor that tells the ECU how much oil is remaining and I doubt that is cheaper to do than a simple dipstick. I think they're trying to cater to the demographic of people that will do anything but get their hands dirty and would rather rely on their car to tell them it's low rather than checking a dipstick.

Just wait until 10 years or a couple hundred thousand miles passes and that sensor fails $$$

Its a BMW thing, been standard since 2006. The sensors are accurate and low failure rate and the newer ones tell you how many quarts exactly.

I wouldn't mind having it so long as they keep the dipstick there too...or is it just an aesthetics thing to clean up the engine bay? Or maybe like with Jeeps it's a BMW thing that I wouldn't understand

makes sense, I wouldn't want a BMW related anything after seeing the issues my mother had with her 2010...after ~70k miles it was one huge expensive repair bill after another

Doesn't seem too bad at all really. But I agree about the whole no-dipstick thing. To me oil level/ condition is too important to rely on an electronic sensor. I do think that it's a cool idea but i'd rather just see it myself

Ive owned BMWs before and its a standard BMW oil change. No harder than the Tacoma other than having to jack up the car and having to take the engine cover off (lifted 4x4 vs lowered sports car). I dont see what special tools your talking about in the post title. Theres no need to put a empty water bottle under the filter to catch the oil that drains out of the filter. No need to buy a drain plug gasket because the filters come with one. No mess easy peasy.

That BMW motor appears to be linked to the Electronic transmission.
It won't likely see 200K on the ODO.
    Maybe junk at 70K.
I'm Supra Surprised Toyota would install a BMW engine in the car.
I think it deserves a BMW Rondelle on the steering wheel.

I won't be interested in buying one.... Sad :(

It's just another thing from the aviation/aerospace field that has been made cheap enough and small/light enough to fit in an automobile. Does it make it easier? That might be up for debate.

What new tools, a bigger socket? That looks like an easy oil change.
