Again, not talking “marketing” ploy or anything. And in case you haven’t heard, the military has a pretty substantial budget. Although I’m sure your extensive time served has already seen that first hand.

Not sure we are completely disagreeing here but the conversation has gotten old either way. We can agree to agree or disagree, whatever the outcome has been.

But... the 6.5 creedmoor has been getting really good reviews. Decisions decisions.

There’s a trade off for everything.

270 actual cartridge design makes its precision harder...not impossible.
.243 has had flat trajectory, often a little light for terminal performance and wind resistance. Both have the potential to MAKE IT to 1000y. 6.5 creed are barrel burners compared to a .308, but the creed offers slightly better ballistics. On paper 6.5 creed is suppose to have better terminal performance but I’ve seen more elk injuries from the creed crown then I have from a .308.

So I guess it depends what you want to do, and what you want to trade off.

Nope it's the 7-08. 270 and 243 are plenty popular

I looked at a comparison between 6.5 creedmore and .270, with .270 and 130gr bullet its less drop and more feet per second all the way out there...vs the 6.5 creed and 140gr bullet...Only thing is from what Ive been told is the 6.5 doesnt kick very much.

Hmmm more kick than a 243 and was formerly introduced in 1980. The perfect deer cartridge. AARP would run with the 243 and 270 crowd.

Full disclosure- I don’t know a ton about the 6.5 BUT I think a large majority get it simply because it’s a buzz word these days. Spend a bit working a gun counter after I retired and there were so many guys that never shot any form of long gun but decided they wanted to be a “sniper,” and every time, there was only three calibers they asked about.

    6.5 creed, 300 win, and 338..

Btw- that is not saying there is anything wrong with any of those, just a firm believer that you shouldn’t learn on something that encourages a new shooter to flinch.

Maybe it’s just me but without a sled, I don’t think those big calibers are even that fun to shoot. It’s possible it’s just been bad set ups but still would never recommend one for a new shooter.

I don't own enough guns to start buying calibers you can only find one or two loads in random gun stores.

308 is everywhere in any flavor you could want.

I was checking the sight-in for my scope today with some friends, and we all have a .308 so if for some random reason one of us would lose their magazine or forgot it, we still could have a single shot, and supply each other.

I actually try to limit my calibers. Makes it easier to stock ammo. Pick whatever is popular with good ballistics and works for my purposes. Actually sold a .40 so I could switch to a 9mm when my wife decided a .40 would be too much for her.

What lead me to that line of thinking was I had a JM Marlin 336 in 35Rem.

Wanted to try Hornady Leverevolution rounds in it. Nowhere had it online. Called around a few gun shops within an hour of my house, nobody had it. One shop even said they weren't making any that year and to try again next fall. Not sure if it was true but it sure felt like it.

No more specially shit for me until I feel like hand loading, and I don't see that happening
