I forget what the size is, but grab extra pipe. You can make all sorts of helpfully holders and braces out of them. Cut 2 U's in some angle iron and weld it to a post and you'll have a grinder and wire wheel holder

 

How are you guys getting rid of mill scale? Accidentally got a hole sheet (4x8) of 1/8 hot rolled since I forgot to tel him cold rolled and didn’t realize till I got home and cut it so I’m stuck with it... not really looking to grind it off was hoping there’s a better solution

 

Diluted muriatic acid, in a plastic container, rinse with water, spray with WD40. Small batches Do this outside, wear a respirator & plastic safety glasses, rubber or vinyl apron old shoes that you can throw away. Neutralize acid with baking soda (keep adding until there is no reaction). Good Luck and be safe.

 

I just use a wire cup on my hand grinder.

 

I just clean up the areas I’m gonna weld and that’s it. Just paint over the rest.

 

Depends some is so thick grinding is the only way.

Clean a little past the heat effected zone.

Return it and get cold rolled unless you worked it up already .

My Fitter and I Have 60+ hours this week on welding/ fitting X-ray sch40 300# weld neck flanges to spool pieces for a propylene oxide system upgrade for a shut down. Every bit is going into the scrap dumpster. Engineer ordered the wrong parts....thousands of dollars down the drain.

 

Dynasty 200 went down AGAIN today. 2nd time in 2 months.
Dragged out the tried and true syncrowave 250 DX.

At this point I am not a fan of these inverter machines. All the electronics makes for a unreliable machine in a production facility as far as I am concerned. Old school transformer machines don't have all the bells and whistles these new inverter machines have, but I am not making parts for NASA so I don't care.

Just my opinion but I have never had good luck with any new fangled inverter machine, they all have issues sooner then later.

I tend to agree the Transformer/Rectifier machines last forever it seems the down side is the weight .

I much rather move a Dynasty 700 around then a Syncrowave 300

Agreed. My transformer tig welder has survived 15 years of -30 to +30 deg C seasons in the garage. It can also double as a battering ram if needed.

Probably some mother board or computer chip. That is what it has always been in the past. I just don't think this fancy machines and all there electronics can stand up to the grinding dust in a production facility.

In theory you should not suck metallic dust into anything but the wind tunnel .

Some people do way to much grinding .

Aluminum is by far the worst for getting where it does not belong .

 

I have metallic dust in my nose every night.
