That’s something I need to get in a better habit of. I don’t even carry much often at all now. Usually stopping ay stores on my way home from work, not usually carrying because we’re not allowed to have anything on the company property, and I always worry about leaving my pistol in my truck. It doesn’t make much sense to not have when it’s needed. I need to crack down on myself and make sure I’m better prepared.

    @TomTwo and @Lawfarin

This is exactly why I'm getting a setup for home defense. No one plans on being robbed or assaulted. With surprisingly little effort, compared to most things in life, you can protect yourself and your piece of mind. Stay safe.

Just because I was born in 1952 doesn't mean I'm old! Ok, yeah it does. :(

    Shotgun for home defense
    red dot or laser
    light
2 mags... well not for most scatterguns
    Practice, yes

Other than mags, all are doable.

At the end of the day, just use what gun YOU are comfortable and proficient with.

I was lucky enough to be able to convince the one in 2006 that I would in fact shoot him, he appeared to be sober and tossed his pistol and hit the floor real quick. His Sister came to my house 3 months after that and asked me to drop the charges  Hell NO that did not happen. The Sheriff had been looking for him He had a warrant for 22 counts of Burglary when the Sheriff showed up to get him Several of them told me I did a good job.

^^^^Exactly you can have all kinds of firearms but you need to be real good with at least one of them.

    No problem

In my opinion, yes, choose a caliber based on your requirements and then suppress it and SBR to your desired length (keeping in mind ballistics as you shorten it).

It was a combination of several things, first off I knew I wanted the AR platform, it’s what I’m proficient with and offers benefits (points of contact, use as a striking weapon, ease of modularity, magazine capacity) that you cannot get with a traditional handgun.
Then I researched different calibers and found data showing that more and more swat teams are switching to SBR AR’s in 556/223 because of concerns of over penetration as well as some other benefits (some of which are listed above), I also kept in mind the cost of ammo.

While not a perfect solution the 556/223 in AR platform checks the boxes for me, ammo is cheap enough to train a good amount per year even on my thin budget, professionals believe it doesn’t have the tendency to over penetrate like PCC’s/handguns could, it suppresses decently well (get a YHM Turbo for around $500 and you have a good can without dropping a ton of $$) and (not really home defense related) it’s a fairly modular caliber, if a major storm happens and I have to hunt I could humanely take a deer or similar sized animal pretty easily with it.

There was a time when my Wife would have thought this was extreme. But not anymore. She no longer asks me where my pistol is She knows it is in my pocket.

My wife is the same .

Used to ask me why I carry a gun everywhere, now asks if I have my gun before we leave the house.

She is not more afraid, just more aware.

I have all three and in duplicate copies. None of which is used for hunting (except armadillos...).

One thing to keep in mind, is a pistol is easier to maneuver in close quarters.

I'm not sure if anyone saw my post on Monday before I took it down, but it was a video of a so-called "elected" official describing the extreme weight of an AR and it shoots .50 cal BMG round and not a 5.56mm. I deleted it, so no one might get "triggered" by actual events...

    My co-worker sent me this:

My buddy sent me that as well. I think it was because I sent him this:

On the plus side, a buddy of mine texted me the other day and he’s selling his AR he was building. I missed the opportunity to buy his Upper but I’m gonna buy his lower receiver. I’ve been wanting to build an AR for a while. Just been avoiding it because money has been tight and I know it’ll turn into a money pit. But I figure I better grab a lower before some overnight legislation takes place that bars me from doing so. Probably won’t finish the build until spring though.
