looking to lay down sound deadening this winter inside and do spray on outside on just the cab floor. Hoping one of you have done this and wonder what the cost was and did it work.

Most have done it inside. Yes it works if you use quality materials and you do floors and doors. Cost is subjective. What is expensive for some is not for others.

If you do it, the cost is low.

If you pay someone to do it for you, the cost is moderate.

Yes, sound deadening deadens sound. How much sound is deadened depends on how much sound deadening is applied.

If you stick 80 mil Noico in your doors and on the rear wall, a Tacoma is about as quiet as a BMW 5xx series. Doing the floor will lower noise by 1db m/l, the roof, another db m/l.

    It's subject to diminishing returns.

$100 worth of Noico and a weekend, covering the doors and rear wall is the sweet spot IMO.

$100,000 and a month of continuous work will sound twice as good as the $100 job.

+1 for doing the rear wall. I've found that to be the largest source of road noise. Once you deaden the wall, you'll notice that the cab vents are very noisy and open directly to the outside. If you check my build thread in my signature, you'll see the cheap & easy solution I came up with using open cell foam.

Did the doors, back floor, and rear cab wall with noico when putting in my upgraded speakers. Made a world of difference and was not hard at all since all the door panels were off anyway.

Thought about doing roof but did not want to get into tearing down headliner ... have heard that really helps a lot as well.

If you have the time and funds, worth the effort.

you should go ahead and purchase the insulation (green) and install at the same time. There's a bunch of vids on youtube if you need prep. My only advice is to ensure you don't forget your bolt holes. I wasn't meticulous enough and forgot a few.

So just the doors and rear wall took the noise down quite a bit? Do you remember how much Noico you needed? Thinking i might do this this weekend. Noico 80mil 36 sq. ft. free next day delivery on Amazon lol.

I did the doors, back floor and wall with that amount and still had a few sq. ft. left over.

I have the stock JBL sound system and I am getting a lot of door panel rattle when the volume is up high. It sounds like it is coming from the door panel, and not the dashboard.

Is it likely to assume that putting 80 mil Noico in the door panels would resolve this issue? Or is the speaker rattling caused by plastic components on the door panel itself (ie. door handle, window buttons, etc.) which can't be helped by sound deadening materials?

I had the same issue as well ... turned out to be button panel was vibrating. I put some friction tape between plastic and door panel (pop it out and you can hide tape) and has been quiet ever since. You will definitely notice the tinny sound created by the door speakers will disappear with nioco and the door will have a nice solid feel when closing.

That’s great info! Can you tell me the brand name or type of tape you used? I assume it’s something one can find on Amazon?

Anyone have any issue with the adhesive melting? I bought a used Acura TL a few years back and the adhesive was oozing out of the drain holes on the doors. Always left a residue on my door sill.
I’d be down to install some sound deadening but that was a real turnoff.

I bought two boxes of that, used 1 and a bit on the doors, added ~10 sq feet of Dynamat to the rear wall, then covered the whole rear wall (and Dynamat) with Noico 80 mil.

It's dramatically quieter. Much quieter than my old Tundra limited. Quieter than my Subaru OBXT limited, which also had Dynamat & was very quiet.

Is it limo quiet? No. You'd need thicker glass, floor/roof treatment, underspray, and interior weighted membrane padding to achieve that in a Taco with A/T tires.

It's good enough for me and only added 40lbs or so. Ymwv.

Thanks for the info. If I could quiet it down quite a bit with just the doors and back wall i think i will go that route. If you don't mind me asking, why also dynamat on the rear wall? Thanks again.

when you mention doing the doors is that exterior shell or exterior and interior shell.
