I'd like to add Heavy Metal Offroad. I believe it was ~$300, plus i got the extra welded options like the dog leash tab, LED light Pod Mount tab, and Rotopax mount tab. Shipping and service was incredibly quick, and he really provided an overall great experience a few months back, but I never gave him a proper shout on TW yet. I couldn't find better bang for the buck at the height I needed.

You’re not bugging me at all. Perhaps this photo will help, although since this picture I’ve added two 1x4s that I nailed to each side the the 2x4s to keep them from sliding together. Hope that makes sense4E372362-38A2-4CD8-88CC-5027EDAE04D5.jpg

That 2x4 and eye bolt setup is the same way I use my Racor hoist for my rrt. I'm actually thinking about changing it a bit and adding castors to allow me to reposition the tent in the garage for airing out.
I am actually liking this hoist setup better than the Racor.

I like that 2x4 setup better than trying to perfectly balance length and width straps at a center point. I have to redo the straps at least 4 times before I get it right. Unfortunately for me, my garage ceiling is too low to incorporate the wood beams, and get it on my truck (see my post picture a few posts back).

Maybe I can figure a way to move my hoist up higher in the attic.

Do you have trouble balancing the load with the beams, or does it tip and tilt? That's my main problem.

I wonder if something like this $40 engine load leveler from harbor freight would help. Just adjust the crank to balance.

Didn't post much on here, but I still follow this thread. Left the RTT life behind and found myself back on the ground. First weekend with the new setup. 20190921_170801.jpg

I've seen that done (online) somewhere. Hoist was mounted above the rafters.

I need to purchase an anti condensation mat for my FSR M49. Any thoughts on where to get some material?

This is exactly what I did with my hoist. And I have the ability to slide it if needed.

Feel like having a big tarp like that under your tent would just hold lots of water on a rainy day. When using a ground tent, my footprint is just the size of my tent.

That's possible. Not too much rain to worry about here in SoCal though. The company does make one that fits perfectly under the tent and awning, but I didn't feel like paying $80 for that haha. Floor is fully tubbed too so pretty much waterproof for up to 5".

What made you go that direction? More room inside I'm guessing?

There's a handful of reasons. More room inside for sure. Can load and unload way easier, easier to store this (this tent is still big folded up, but more manageable to me), don't have to pack it up to use truck after camp is set up, less weight in bed (made a huge difference this last weekend when offroad), will allow me to mount bikes on bed rack with tent loaded.

Yea, packing up tent after setting up camp is a lot of work. I been thinking of switching my clamshell rtt to a hardshell roofnest that sits above my cab a bit. quick setup and down and with the higher rack, i can put my back in the bed. Its just a lot of money to make the switch.

That new ikamper short bed varient had caught my interest. Those tents look like the fold up pretty quick. I was considering going hardshell as well, but I wanted to keep everything below roof level and didn't want to have a huge overhang from the hardshell length. Also the price of those hardshells is hard to swallow.

Yes, it is sometimes difficult to level the load. At times, it works great the first time, other times I have to readjust several times. It doesn’t have to be perfect, just close enough that it doesn’t drop the tent.

Hmmm, don't think i have seen the ikamper or heard of the short bed one. Ikamper is pretty quick setup set down.
