wow thanks I think you just showed me my next tires :)

Read some reviews on them a few people mentioned they had them "syped" for better snow/ice performance, do you have any thoughts on that? Like any negatives to doing so??

Not sure how soon you’re looking to get a set but there is a $100 rebate on them til the 28th.
Doesn’t snow here so I can’t speak to adding more siping but they’re fine in the rain.

Go with the 33’s! After you put the weight of the vehicle and the natural deflection of the tire it’ll be more like 31’s

I was deciding between the two and did a bunch of research. This link compares the two very well.
    http://roadtraveler.net/mastercraft-courser-cxt/
One big difference is the ST Maxx has an alternating center tread (2-3-2) vs the CXT with just two center lugs the whole way. This makes the ST Maxx quieter. CXT has a more pliable sidewall though. Can’t go wrong with either, both are made by Cooper.

I went from stock 265/70R16 Goodyears to 255/85R16 Cooper ST MAXX and lost probably only 1.5mpg. I don't drive with a light foot most days and mileage isn't my top priority. 16.5 to 15mpg (roughly 14l/100km to 15.5l/100km). Load range E, almost 60 pounds a tire. I expected worse. Ride quality is different but not bad per say.
No cutting, no trimming, stock wheels.
