Check Larry Miller Toyota, Mark Miller Toyota, and Karl Malone Toyota in Salt Lake City. They often have decent prices and inventory. Plus their tax rate is 7.60% better than the 8.25% in Vegas.

Also, if you're feeling bold Toyota of Bozeman has everything up to the 202o Pro in AG and NO SALES TAX. You could do that drive in a day too if you fly up in the morning to do the sale. Drove 900 miles when I bought mine and it was a blast.

Not sure what configuration you're looking for either.

It’s wild how each state does things differently when it comes to taxes, registration fees, etc.

Here in Oklahoma, you only pay what you and the dealer work out on a final price to the dealer. Then, you have 30 days to go to the tag office to pay TTL which is ~4% of the price you paid at the dealer. You get your tag, tag sticker (good for one year) and registration papers.

Even if I buy a vehicle out of state, I have 30 days to register it in Oklahoma and pay the same 4% “tax”.

I guess if you were out of state, you would pay 0% tax if buying in Oklahoma and taking it back home? Depending on what your state laws are.

Interesting. I'll reach out to UT and see what they've got. Thanks for the insight!

It's all a hot mess that's why you need to do research or what you thought was a good deal could end up costing you more. Or some states don't take private party car sales because it was already taxed on the first round etc. Same deal with state registration. Some are astronomical flat rates, some are based on weight, some are based on year, and some are based on depreciation charts.

California and Washington have essentially the same tax rate so it was a wash. If I had bought the truck in Oregon without sales tax I would have owed the 9.25% tax when I registered the truck in CA within 30 days. Some people would be SOL if they had to pony up 4K at once because it was now an expense outside of the purchase that they were not able to include in financing.

Ran the math on mine it was cheaper for me to get a better deal in a less competitive area and pay for the one way flight and gas back down plus a $28 WA temp registration transit permit than to buy the car locally. To each their own buying out of state isn't for the faint of heart, but worth it if you can get exactly what you want at a great price.

Yeah man the internet is a powerful tool and is beneficial for things like this. Also makes you feel more comfortable with additional buying options and buying experience to make sure you get exactly what you want and it's as painless as possible. Good luck with your searching and let us know how it goes!

Ultimately, I'd like to support a local dealership but I also don't want to get screwed. I guess we'll see this Friday what happens!

I agree it's great to support the local community but they have to come to the table too. Maybe lay it out point blank that you would love to purchase from them but their competition for your business is on a national, not just local platform. It may work for some, others won't give two shits. It also depends on the business model of the dealership you're at i.e. commission based, no haggle etc. because that sets the guidelines for how much wiggle there is.

Even though it wouldn't be as much of a drive for you it would be kind of cool if you could go pickup your new Tacoma directly from the San Antonio plant and take a tour similar to how you can go to Sweden to get the Volvo Experience and drive your car around Europe for a bit before they ship it back to you.

Is the plant pickup/tour a real thing available? Never heard that before.

It's not, but it would be pretty cool if it was. I was referencing the Volvo Home Shipment Program. I'm sure its offset locally though because of tourist money is being infused into the local economy too when they are taking delivery. Maybe with the new 400 mil expansion plan Toyota can put something in the works.

This is what the Volvo Experience includes:

The price of your Volvo includes an unforgettable journey that starts in Gothenburg, Sweden — the place where Volvos are born:

•Two round-trip tickets to Scandinavia – enjoy premium seating with our preferred airline SAS along with lounge passes* and priority boarding
•One night stay at the Clarion Hotel Post in Gothenburg – located in the heart of the City in the Central Square
•Home shipment services – to your local U.S. Volvo dealer. $995 destination and delivery.
•Assistance from an Overseas Delivery specialist – to plan an amazing journey with your new Volvo. Overseas Delivery travel planning courtesy of Corporate Travel.
•Complimentary insurance coverage – up to 15 days of European car insurance, including temporary Swedish registration

Yup Cali prices for you. Checked out of morbid curiosity and dealership down here said ADM of $6,995.00 and they tried to spin like they were giving me the good buddy discount or something. The margins are even higher than that if you factor in MSRP over invoice too.

How anyone would settle for the highway robbery that a "mark up" of this is, is a mystery to me. Especially when with a minimal expense, you could fly or travel to a dealer where there isn't a markup and save way more than the 10k doing so. I must be missing something.

My dealer called today as they were taking some 2020s off the truck. They weren't even on the regular lot when I got there, but in their overflow area. I test drove the off-road. The seat really doesn't go down that far, but they didn't have one with a sunroof. They had a few, but the ones I looked at were the basic off-road and a 4x2 sport. The sport was already priced at $32,402. Also, the cement seats aren't as bad as the pictures I've seen, but they aren't great either. No cubby on the driver's side bed. This was near Charlotte, NC.

Other companies do this too. I almost did the BMW experience about 5 years ago, but then I got orders to move to Hawaii and life went a very different route that now involves my 2nd Tacoma. :D

Not only is the trip/experience really neat, they also sell it to you for a few grand under invoice at a fixed price (because you are cutting out the dealer and buying directly from BMW). I would've been all over this if Toyota offered something similar.

Those seats don't look bad. Agree that they're not great but they're also not terrible.

Because some people have more dollars than sense if you know what I mean. Theres a sucker born every second, plus some people don't want to take on the extra work (even though it's worth it) and end up paying essentially an over the top convenience fee. If they thought rationally on what they can do with 10k (even more if you're financing that amount) you would hope a rational person would be able to walk away.

To be fair a lot of people in California with high salaries have lost touch of the value of a dollar and the reasonable cost of things. Other as a status want to be the first one to have it and it doesn't matter what the cost is.

Looks kinda cool, but I'm sure I'd tire of it pretty quickly so it's not one I'd pick for a 45K truck.

I'll bet that blue jeans stain the gray fabric. The pattern also doesn't do the fabric color any favors either.

The non-leather seat pattern has always looked funny to me. On this model and previous ones.
