Just curious on what everyone does for regularly scheduled maintenance.

I have the dealer perform maintenance until the 35,000 mile mark, which means I pay for the last two. Then I shop around and get the best non-dealer price for maintenance, but I still follow the recommended schedule.

I do beyond the recommended schedule which should be part of the poll :)

At 45k miles I've already swapped my trans, both diffs, and transfer case fluids... TWICE.

Probably overkill but its cheap enough to do that I'd rather just do it. I overload my truck regularly, tow a good amount, and have really abused her offroad so figure keeping her fluids fresh is the least I can do lol.

If you are talking about what is in the Maintenance Guide, then yes for the most part.

On the initial maintenance I will but anything after I make the first changes. It depends on what I use Oil for example I usually run Mobil 1 extended performance synthetic which is good up to 15k but I will generally change somewhere between 10 and 12k regardless. Transmission, Rear end transfer case and such it all will depend on the type of fluids I put back in and there respective life span.

only for the important stuff like fluids...the dealer's "schedule" is designed to make them the most $$$ first and foremost, your truck is secondary. I don't need my tires rotated every 6 months, dont need my cabin air filter replaced after 3yrs, etc etc

Free for two years so I let the dealer do it. Then shop around or do it myself if I have a weekend off.

The reason the dealers want you at their dealership every 5,000 miles is to find things for them to do beyond the regular maintenance...that's where their real money is at! After the warranty is over, then it's every 10K for fluid changes!

So what I’m gathering is that the majority of owners follow the schedule but do the work themselves or 3rd party?

I change my oil every 5K as well as rotate. I have the dealer do it. And follow the maint. schedule for other filters ect. I have found that if you spend a little $$$ with the dealer, they will be more likely to held you with Goodwill later down the road, if you have an issue. And Toyota is more likely to help you later too. I have seen where people did the free stuff, and never came back until there was an issue. And asked Toyota to help. And were turned down. Why should they extend you help if you aren't spending money with them other then buying your car from them.

Changed my oil this morning. Could have had it done for free at the dealer, but I know the filter got changed, everything was properly torqued, and I saved 4 hours of my life, and I came out of it without any of the complimentary dealer door dings.

If it isn't a recall, my truck isn't going to the dealer. In fact, I'm not taking it in for the TSS 'foam fix.'

I did while it was free. Oil and tires till I hit 25k.
Not I monitor everything and change it when I feel it needs it. Could before or after recommend times

because they sold you a warranty with the truck and its not dependent on whether you chose to pay for their dealer maintenance or not.

as long as you maintain the truck according to their schedule and document it then they have no reason to deny warranty work.

I voted "NO," because I will rarely if ever follow a dealer's advice. However, Toyota's, yes I follow Toyota's recommendation in the manuals.

I found that the Toyota Dealership I bought my truck from didn't do the first maintenance when I took it in, they only filled the mats with water. No brake check, no nothing. So after a call to Toyota Canada, I do the maintenance based on the factory schedule myself.

    Edited for missing info.
