Opportunity came up to buy a 2016 Toyota Tacoma for a total of about 23k from a dealership out of state. 90k miles on the truck. I should be able to afford the payments but it might get tricky at times because I’m going to college at the moment but I believe THIS DEAL CANT BE BEATEN. Opinions much appreciated, thanks.

I vote no. If payments are tricky, I would wait, save, and buy newer with less miles.

90k is decent amount of miles with not knowing what it’s been through.

Routine service? How many owners? Etc?

i honestly don’t think it’s a deal that can’t be beat. But it’s your money and your decision.

My opinion is that the worst thing you can do is start your college/ post college life with debt that you may not be able to handle.

Unless you are on a full ride, why add more debt to start out your life then you already are?

My two cents, being a guy that’s horrible with financial decisions, don’t buy it.

If payments might get tricky at times, then buy something older and cheaper.

Pinching pennies to make truck payments fucking sucks. Having to potentially sell and add negative equity into an older vehicle fucking sucks.

If something breaks on that and you’re already pinching pennies to pay for it, is going to fucking suck to try and pay for the repair.

My advice, buy something older/cheaper. Having extra money is a huge stress reliever. You can then afford mods and repairs.

This is all said from experience as I’ve always been the type to do exactly what you’re thinking. “I mean I can afford the payments, I’ll cut down on other things.”

Don’t do it to yourself and you’ll thank me later.

One thing at a time. Finish college, upgrade your job then buy a truck.

This is a disaster in the making [said in the most polite way possible]. Focus on school and trying to minimize debt. Save up and buy yourself a new car once your graduate AND land a good job. just because you "can", doesn't mean you "should".

My gut instinct on random people asking other random people about making shitty financial decisions is that the person asking has already been told its retarded and is looking for someone to validate the shitty choice they want to make so they can turn around and say, "well so and so said it was an OK idea".

If you think it may get tricky, wait. There will be other deals out there when you are more stable.

I was in your shoes not even 2 years ago! Almost signed off on a 40k truck at 10.9% 72 months! I'm glad I waited. Skip the truck and finish school. Then buy new or way less used once you find a good job. I'm glad I waited, coming from a proud 23 y/o Taco owner

A terrible idea. Spend a lot less on a lower mileage reliable car that won’t tempt you to spend money you don’t have on mods.

Can’t have been, that interest rate is way too low for a new private.

Nope, I was finishing up my Bachelors in Business from a major university in Texas! I was excited to be getting out of school and went to the nearest dealer, was gonna put the little money I had down on the truck, then I realized I was getting burned and left.

I appreciate the replies guys. Everyone has told me it’s a great idea because I can get my money out of it IF I ever need to get rid of it. I don’t have a vehicle, I need a truck, and it’s hard to pass on my dream truck for $346/month. Again, thanks for the replies.

The worst thing you can do is buy something based on the cost per month. That's a game dealers play to fuck you.
