This question is for dal3. Do you live where it gets cold? This is when I have the biggest issue with gear hunting and freeway hills. It's so bad I can't use cruise control, (transmission goes nuts) whch is very annoying because 98% of my commute is freeway and there are 3 good size hills along the way. I've tried S mode and ETC power but it makes no difference. I really want to try the TSB flash but not sure if it will help.

    Hi again,
Sorry for the delay on this. I had my scheduled appointment with dealership. Of course, they told me no TSB's for my truck and couldn't help me. However, tech drove truck and noticed the idle surge issue I also complained about. Turns out the tranny fluid was low and they added to it. I'm not having that surge on a cold truck backing out of my garage any longer. I have just been driving the truck with ECT engaged and have just learned to live with it. I think the gearing issue is either something you can try to live with or you blow bucks on OV Tune. I'm not going to do that, so it is a dead issue for now. Anyway, thanks for all your suggestions & comments. I like having a community of good people you can chat with. Thanks!!

I just drive this thing like a clutchless three speed manual 90% of the time:

Hop in truck, ect on, put it in S mode and pull back twice on the shifter and I'm in 2nd and ready to go.

Why 2nd? Because 1st feels like crap and is too jumpy at like 3000 rpm, so I let the auto tranny get the shift from 1st to 2nd out of the way for me.

Then I hold 2nd until I'm at like 3-4,000 rpm... get the damned truck in the power band, you know? Then I go into third.

I stay in 3rd unless im going above like 45 mph. You drop like 1,000 rpms going from third to fourth, which brings you out of the power band, so I hold third until im sure I want 4th.

If im cruising above 45 I go into 4th.

I only use 5th and 6th if I'm cruising at highway speeds, and even then i downshift for hills, etc., to grab more power at higher rpms when needed. These gears are bullshit on the automatic... worthless unless you're basically coasting lol.

I use engine braking while slowing down, downshifting only to 2nd, and then I start all over.

I'm a long time manual transmission person and honestly, I do wish I'd gotten the manual. But I have to admit the system I've worked out for myself is quite satisfying. In S mode the response to shifter input is very predictable, and now I just do it naturally after having the truck almost a year.

If you don't wanna mess around with all this and aren't going to be driving 65+ mph... you know, like you're banging around town and not the jnterstate... set the truck to S4, ect on, and at least you get more responsive throttle input and don't have to deal with the lousy 5th and 6th gears.

But try driving it like clutchless manual! This truck drives great once you get the RPMs up. The connectedness is lightyears better than what you get leaving the truck in D.

Mine has no issues at all. Wait it’s a MT, never mind.

I thought you were trolling at first, then by the end I realized you know what you're talking about because I've been driving it like this lately as well

Once you discover the power band you can never go back to D.

I put in the Shift Sense Pro V2. Delays the upshifts and lets the engine run like a six cylinder. It controls the upshifts of the transmission and does not change the software. You plug it in by the shifter and the other end plugs into the OBD port. I put a strip of the hook from hook and loop and stuck it on my carpet just below the console, instead of on the console.
