Might want to read a good bit on that atas from what I have seen it wasn't very impressive.

Bought a Yaesu FT-70DR today to jump on the Fusion/C4FM bandwagon.

That is the one nice thing about the shark rf. You don't have to plug them in to switch it

 

I can do it wireless.

Yeah everyone is jumping on the fusion here. Might as well also. Even though DMR and fusion are linked full time. Oh well give me options out of town camping maybe.

 

Fusion on a hotspot is one thing...Wires-X is another. You can use a hotspot to link to any YSF or FCS room out there, but none of them are on the Yaesu Wires-X network. It's hard to explain. Yeah, I have a Pi-Star hotspot where I can use YSF to DMR and all that jazz. It's just different than the Yaesu Proprietary Wires-X network. They're stingy with their stuff. If you can connect to a Wires-X network, look up "Texas Patriots" room. I have yet to set up a Raspberry Pi for a YSF to Wires-X bridge for our Wires-X room. Confused yet?

 

Yeah, I'll probably just ask for a code plug. lol

 

I think YSF misses the boat with AVL. Kenwood has (had?) that avmap that cost a fortune, but integrated well with the TM-D710A and TM-D710G. YSF has no way to get GPS locations out of the radio to display on a map.

If it had this feature, I think YSF would be much more attractive. All it needs to do is push the GPS positions out the serial port in a NMEA waypoint format, and there are plenty of commercial solutions that could be implemented for the map display.

Other then that glaring omission, I think YSF is a neat mode. I really like the group monitor mode in particular.

 

Picked up an FTM-100dr at the Cleveland Hamfest on Sunday. Upgraded firmware to the latest and then installed it after work on Monday.

I haven't completely yanked my Ft-8900 yet. This FTM-100dr is Ok. I already miss dual receive on the ft-8900. YSF is an interesting mode with some nice features.

 

Nice! Have triple recieve and run both.... Haha.


How's the APRS with it? I really want to get something with it natively on it.

 

Get the Kenwood tm-d710g. I own one and it may end up back in this truck when I get tired of YSF. Hands down the best rig for APRS. Although you'll really miss the map on your Android.

If you're still using the TM-V71A + Mobilnkd, that's a great combo! Why do you want native?

 

BTW, the DW "feature" on the FTM-100dr is the dumbest DW ever.
