Camped here over the weekend! Jolon toward Fort Hunter Liggett was closed 10 miles from the site so I had to take a 3 hour detour... Beautiful spot but I can't imagine staying longer for one night. The flies there are crazy.

That whole area is like a big open latrine, hence the flies. That sign should say shovels are mandatory.

I was up there in August and no campfires are allowed there.

Easy spot to get to; let me know if you go since I'd be happy to make the drive out there, even if I don't camp.

    Hey Guys,

Debating a trip up there sometime soon. Hopefully the flies wont be so bad as the weather turns cooler.

I have a few questions though regarding the area.

I'm guessing number 1 is the main campsite you guys are camping on or is it number 5?

What's located at the ends of 2-5? Curious to know, I guess I could just go there and check it out but I usually like to take trips where I see the least amount of people as possible.

Area #1 is the spot where I posted pictures of; it's just a nice open area with plenty of spots under the stars, or under a tree to camp in.

Flies aren't as crazy as they were back in July; a citronella candle works wonders on the picnic table.

I've gone down to #4 just to check it out, but came back up since the view wasn't as great as #1. But a lot of people head there to camp as well as #5. During the weekend though, you may run into less people at 4 and 5 because not a lot of people know about the lower campsites; I learned about those from talking to the locals that live there.

Btw, Gaia maps' topo layer works great for fire roads. If you want some screen shots, I can get you some later when I get home.

    When are you heading out?

Here are a few spots from the ridge -

The ones I didn't take pics of were from under the trees. There are 5 different areas under the trees that provide a bit of privacy, but lack the better views.

Wind was picking up out there, so watch the dirt that gets kicked up everywhere.

That would be great. I have also started using Gaia.

I'm thinking hopefully sometime in October but more realistically November/December.
