Has anyone installed 265x75x16 or 255x85x16 tires on stock OR rims and had any rubbing or contact on a NON LIFTED truck? Looking to buy Cooper ST Max or STT Pro, or Firestone Destination M/T tires. Spent a lot of time on forum, but unable to find definite answer. My 2016 TRD OR AC is stock and in need of tires soon.
    Thanks, Rick

Both of those sizes will not rub on the stock wheels and suspension. Some have had rubbing on mudflaps but I didn’t have any when I had them and 265/75/16s. Haven’t tried with the 255/85s.

For reference, here’s clearance on stock suspension and 255/85/16 ST Maxx.

Your question is 100% the thread's title, though. The 255 size that is.

I'm actually running OPs 255 KM2s still. On his 3rd gen OR wheels, w/ Spidertrax wheel spacers.

Edit: I do have a lift, and armor, and SPC uppers. And do have rub, somewhere. I figure the part will either rub itself into stopping rubbing, fall off, or cut a tire :notsure: None of that has happened yet :D

Pardon the stupid question. Are your spacers for vertical lift or a wider stance?

Would a slightly wider stance make more sense while running these tires since they're a little less stable than a 265+?

Would offsetting them make them more prone to rub or less?

Stance. Wheel spacers. I'll clarify that one.

I wouldn't call them less stable, but there is noticeable sidewall flex in a tight turn. I also chucked my sway bar in the trash a loooong time ago.

Offset (the wheel spacers) is keeping them away from my UCA at least. However, they might be rubbing in a different location in the fender well, where they wouldn't without spacers.

Anyone chime in running 255’s on stock OR with excessive weight?

I’m at about 5800lbs with myself in the truck.

I have air bags in the rear, just don’t wanna rub in the front...

    Leaning towards the bfg km3’s

Looks like I'm going to jump into the boat of skinny/tall tires.

Long story short, I got hit by a lady who was turning left on my green and "didn't see me", nailing the rear driver's wheel/tire.
Damage didn't seem like much but bent the axle and when she hit, ripped the TPMS cap I had off which deflated the tire in about 60 seconds.
Wheel seems fine but I'm going to take all of them off and get new wheels/tires.

Think it's time for a change from my BFG Ko2 275/70/17s and am seriously looking at the 255/85/16 Cooper ST Maxx so this thread has been very helpful.

Got to wait til my rig gets back from the shop and I can pick up my wheels (FJ 16x7 aluminum alloy wheels from a buddy) and then it will be time for new shoes!

So a few weeks ago I got a screw in the outside edge of my tire. I was at 5/32nd and just didn't want to spend $1000 on tires so I plugged it myself and got a couple more weeks out of it till I said whatever and bought tires. Decided to go with the tall skinny and after a few days I've got to say I'm happy as happy can be. Gonna take it out this weekend and find some rocks to see how they handle themselves....
So with the coopers what are ya'll finding to be the best tire pressure to run them at?

I have read every single post on this long thread. Whewww

Now I'm not entirely sure what tire size I'll get next from stock. I thought I was leaning towards 265/75R16 and possibly new wheels but then I came across this thread.

Im hesitating making the jump to the 255/85s due to comments regarding the driving characteristics of the more narrow tires, more significant loss of mpg and braking, and not being entirely fond of the skinny look. The 255s definitely seem to be pushing the envelope but it's awesome you can run them stock. I just hate to make the truck less drivable for the times my wife takes it. I have more research to do but I may just make an incremental step to 265/75.

Are their Tacoma meetups in the Phoenix area? Might be a good way to see this setup in person before making a final decision.

I wanted 255/85/16 really bad. Didn't want to change rims or suspension (for now). Ended up going with 265/75/16 for the simple reason it was literally half the cost. (I'll risk having a stock spare with 75's, but 85's is too big of a difference for me). I'll take that $600 and put it towards some steel plates :)

It’s a little hard to see. Sun was going down by the time I got my truck back. I went with km3, 255/85r16. The tire tech removed the front mudflaps and out em in the bed because of a chance of rub. I plan to put em back in and test this out myself. Otherwise no rubbing.

You should head over to the AZ regional sub forum. There's a lot of TW guys here that post in there. There hasn't been any official meet up since 2017 if I recall correctly but I know there are a lot of guys that get together and wheel on the weekends and stuff in smaller groups.

Just starting out, give me time
So has anyone that has put any 255/85/16's on their truck had any rubbing issues with adding weight in the back and it bottoming out. Misc items, wood, bricks, heavy items over 100 lbs

First and foremost, while you do notice a difference in the drive at first, that subsides very quickly. You don't even notice the difference after a very short time. Now, if you're wife is anything like mike, she doesn't drive the truck often. When she does, I really don't think she is nearly attentive enough to notice the difference. Mine has driven the truck and never noticed a thing. Also, FWIW, she is not the completely oblivious and is good paying attention to her vehicle...even changing her own tires. :)

400 mile trip with 420lb bike plus gear in the truck, pulling a trailer with probably 70-90 lbs tongue weight. No rub, towed nicely.

So I went out this weekend and had to test out the new tires.
No noticeable rubbing anywhere. Slightly disappointed that I got some small chunks taken out, but thats what the tires are for....
Pics show the space I had with them.
And I probably had 150ish pounds of gear and crap in the back...

Pulled the trigger this week on the Cooper S/T Maxx 265x75x16 tires. I do not have any rubbing, fills the wheel well nicely, not noisy, mpg about the same considering 30.6" to 32.1" (5% error) Will post some pictures later.
