Even after all the negative I've read here, I still want one. Am I crazy ?

If anything, use this board to do your research on common TSB's for the truck you're going to eventually buy. Make sure it either doesn't have those issues, or the TSB's have been applied.

    Happy Hunting

No. You are not crazy. Every vehicle will have some quirks. There are some valid issues with Tacomas and this is a good place to research them, others can be a bit nitpicky but this is no different than any forum or other group I have been a part of. I've found a lot of valuable information here so don't let the negative posts dissuade you. In general someone who has a complaint will be very open about it and tell a lot of people either to validate their concerns or just to commiserate with others. Someone who likes a product tend to keep it to themselves or those close to them. The internet/social media has a tendency to magnify everything. Most Tacoma owners don't participate in forums unless they are looking for some answers in regards to their truck.

I really didn't participate in any kind of forum until the rise of my favorite MMO games and my specific niche of art related topics and all of them are just like this one in terms of valuable content and negative posts.

Nobody is logging on here to say my Tacoma is running perfectly fine....but with that said I've had two second gens that have both lasted 10+ years, 140k+ on the first one and I'm just about to roll over 100k in my current one. 3rd gens will be fine as well just a few kinks along the way like all vehicles.

I think the complaints here are a relatively small minority. Some from people with unreasonable expectations, some who never should have bought in the first place and some who are new to the "truck world." Some are legitimate, but sales volume and popularity to me prove how uncommon the problems really are. I love my 2017. Best truck I have owned. If I had to buy another, I'd happily buy the 2020.

Dude. No one's gonna make a forum post when their truck starts up every day and gets them to work without any drama. Look at how many 1st and 2nd gens are still out there, at high miles, doing awesome truck stuff. Toyota never really changed that basic formula, and now that we're a few years into the 3rd gen a lot of the QA-type stuff is getting resolved. And if not, "There's a TSB for That!" Unlike other manufacturers we've seen trying to either cover stuff up or tell their customers to kick rocks.

You won't regret it. Enjoy those power seats, LED lights, and CarPlay. Lucky bastard.

Hi revs don't concern me. Here at work we have a fleet of smaller machinery with 50-60hp diesel motors in them. These motors run essentially to the wall their entire service life which is usually 4000 plus hours, which translates into almost 1/4 million miles in car miles and at the end of that time usually the motor is fine (usually not taking any oil between service intervals at all) while every other part on the unit is finished.

This. Traffic ain't too bad if you leave enough following distance, and the rest of the time it's a lot more fun.

You only find problems if you are reading this places negative threads constantly, which hyper-sensitizes you to subtle flaws. Don’t forget that this site is a very small percentage of Tacoma owners. Also, most other vehicle forums are loaded with bitching about much more serious or sometimes laughably nonsensical issues with their topic vehicles.

I think all of the automatic transmission complaints are way overblown on this site. I have two 3rd gens (2016 and 2019) with the automatic trans and they drive great. Sure they are programmed to shift early to save the fuel economy, but if you know how to drive it and aren’t afraid to put your foot into it and rev it out they do just fine. I think most of the people here are scared to get over 4000rpm which is where it starts to make power.

I say go for it and don’t think too much about the complaints you read here. That being said, there is a ton of good info on this site as well.

I found my issues before tacoma world. However, if the rear-end in my truck wasn't so loud I would the whole truck.

OP, get the truck & fully embrace the negativity. It makes you feel really good when you hear about other peoples problems & you don't have any, lol...
