Here's some tire volumes(gallons) of interest. People think if they have a #gallon tank that they will fill their tires a lot faster. I know these aren't our ezact sizes but it gives some point of reference.

I'm pretty sure having a tank actually might slow down air up times because the compressor has to fill an additional 2.5 gallons as well. You do speed up the first tire though, and the compressor can continue to run between tires... Probably a wash in the end.

I have a tank for other stuff, not filling tires, but you have to consider that 2.5 gallons at 150 psi is a lot more air than 2.5 gallons at 35 psi.

 

It's not really that much air. Try running it until pressurized then see how many tires it fills back up. It wants to kick on way before it drops to tire pressure so from then on it's trying to fill both the tank and the tire.

 

Totally, I get that. Like I said, I use the tank for other stuff, I don't have it for filling tires. It definitely slows down fill times a little bit.

 

So I got everything all hooked up. Haven't tested actual fill times for tires, but I tested how long it takes to fill my 2.5 gallon tank from 0-150psi.

Viair 400c only - 3.12
ARB Twin only - 1.10
Both combined - 0.55

Not a huge gain from having both running over just the ARB, time wise. However, that is 20% faster than the ARB alone, so not too bad over a longer duration (ie. Filling up all 4 tires).

I pressurized the system this morning, and over the course of the day so far it's lost around 10 or 15 psi. Would love to get that down to nothing if anybody has any suggestions? Before adding the twin and lockers I was losing around 10-15psi a week. I used soapy water but I think the leak is too small to tell.

 

How did you seal all the threads on your air connections?

Yeah I should get some of that stuff... I just used Teflon tape. I've heard that stuff works way better, but is expensive!

 

I get mine on eBay. Got a full bottle from China for cheap, and smaller reseller distributed bottles for cheap too.

 

But it's so so nice to not have any leaking at 150psi...

 

Here is what I have used in my system that includes six connections at this time.
Loctite SF 7649 primer followed by the Loctite 545 thread sealant. I have had zero in the three years since. I will not do any changes or additions without using both of these.

guess we will see what happens over time.

 

Does anyone have a source for ARB Compressor parts other than Poly Performance? Their shipping costs are ridiculous. $16 shipping on a $5 part? I don't think so.

 

have you tried arb direct? They are usually pretty good for that sort of thing

Lastly you will need an air source to air up. Hope I didn’t miss anything. I shopped around and was able to purchase all those supplies for around 100

 

Has anyone used the Slee ARB compressor mount, http://www.sleeoffroad.com/products/products_air.htm, to mount a ViAir compressor under the hood? I've got a '14 DC TRD OR and since I mounted an aux battery on the passenger side against the firewall using the OGE bracket and an aux fuse box next to the main fuse box in the driver's I'm sort of running out of option.

 

I'm curious also. I have a Viair 088 that I'd like to mount under the hood as opposed to carrying it either in the cab or a bed cubby...
