Yeah I think it was necessary otherwise I would always be listening for rubbing. Now I dont worry.

    Yep, the Nittos.

Tomorrow I'll be busy doing hurricane clean up throughout the yard but maybe next week we can meet up and you can check it out.

Sounds great. I was under the impression that a CMC wasn't necessary with the 4runner pro wheels running 285s

For peace of mind I think it's necessary, for a strictly Street truck you could maybe go without but now I don't have to worry about it and it was only a hundred bucks to get it done.

I'm happy with it, very happy so far.

I went to wildpeak at3 265 75 16 stock suspension. Much happier with these vs stock, and I actually like the black sr5 rims alot. Mpg went down a bit, power is still good though

Same here. I just know that at highway speeds my actual velocity is approximately 4mph over. GPS speed keeps me honest.Screen Shot 2019-09-09 at 5.41.28 AM.jpg

Question OP, did your truck get noticeably taller with the 285s?

Our trucks were meant to have bigger tires on them. Especially since you have a long bed, it makes your truck look like it had skipped leg day. 315’s or 35’s. Hell, even 37’s if you wanna do a lot more chopping. 897F6526-4816-4CB6-9483-DECE1800A5EE.jpg

I went from 265/70/17’s to the most popular choice for tacoma’s according to my local tire shop, BFG KO2 AT 285/70/17’s. I got a 2” lift to accommodate the taller tire.

It is a little taller, I'm no longer scraping the top of my head in the doorsill as I slide in but also makes the lift appear less, fender gap has decreased.

Honestly it almost looks like a stock truck in height with larger tires.....

That is until I pull up next to a stock truck then the height is quite evident

285/70r17 provides a 1” increase in height over stock 265/65r17. I have 4” of lift and the 285’s lift the entire truck one more inch. Wife parachutes out and uses a rope ladder to ingress.

That’s one of the last Mobtown Offroad steel bumpers. They do the hybrid (tubular) bumper now. I love this bumper though the reasoning for stopping production may have been weight reduction of the hybrid.

    These are 255 85 16 BF Goodrich KM3
3-1/2" inch ICON lift..no CMC (as of yet) you may or may not tell...this is fully loaded with shell, carpet kit, camping equipment, rock slider, winch and winch bumper. It's heavy. Off road, front tires will rub when impacting holes or rocks at moderate or high speed. Slow crawl or slower travel on forest service rds okay

Mods I’ve done after playing with my 285s on a 4” lift and bouncing through some rough terrain:

Removed one Rockblox mud flap (the left front took care of itself by being ripped off on the trail. WOOPS!!).

Trimmed about two inches of fender well flare outer lower edge. Didn’t want the tire taking a turn at tearing that off a lot more aggressively and me have to use @boogie3478 replacement video instruction after the fact to fix a damaged well flare.

I have the CMC plates, and will probably have that done when I get home from deployment, but so far there has been no rubbing at the frame vicinity of the cab mount.

I absolutely love the look and how they perform. I don’t look at gas mileage any more. Just enjoy the ride!
