The 4.0L isn’t picky on what oil to use. Now if your extending your intervals go will a full synthetic.

Question, what are your thoughts on Pennzoil Ultara Platinum? I have heard that if you want to move to the next level of $$$ this is the way to go.

I guess I meant a step up in quality. being that mine has forced induction and I plan on keeping it for a long time. I'm okay spending more money on an oil that may be a little better. Others may not be able justify the extra $$ but if you were what would you get?

I'm supercharged and use the Pennzoil synthetic 5w30 with the 'for turbocharged engines' formula sticker on it. No idea if it really makes a difference but it claims to be better for engines that tend to run rich from forced induction, since that can contaminate oil more quickly.

More importantly I just make sure to stick to a strict interval of no more than 6k mile oil changes to ensure that if it is getting contaminated more quickly, I'm not running it to 8k - 10k miles that way. Peace of mind more than anything probably but that's worth it for me.

Excuse me while I quickly unsub from this thread now to avoid the crapshow that oil threads always inevitably become

I only drive the truck 5000 miles a year and so I use conventional and change it once a year. After a year it still looks great.

If you drive a ton of miles and don't want to change it every few months, put it one of the extended interval high price synthetics. You can run a ton of miles and still change it once a year.

It depends on how you use your truck, where you live, what kind of driving you do...it just depends.

For me, I’ve mostly used the Mobil 1 synthetic. You can get a 5 quart jug for about 23 bucks as someone else mentioned. Pretty good stuff, I’ve never had a problem with it. For my 2010 that I recently bought, I put in the Rotella “Gas Truck” synthetic. For now anyway.

All you really need though is any modern spec 5w-30. All motor oils have to meet API specs. Type SN Plus is the standard for 2019.

Cause it’s made from “natural gas”?
    Still group3 oil.
Still goes through a refinement process
Still gets cut and blended with other stuff.

I use mobil 1 just cause Costco has it and all 3 vehicles use the same weight and the bike had some bearing failures that seem to go away once mobil 1 or Yamalube syn was used.
I can get mb1 easier than yamalube...

I change my mobile1 every 5k. Is that needlessly too soon?

That be the MFG recommended interval, nothing wrong with that or sooner. Some of the “master keyboard mechanics” will tell you it is about oil analysis reports.....do as you wish, there is more to why oil is changed and when than oil reports.

Dark dont mean much though, can't gauge much from color.

5K is a good clip, you can probably push to 7,500.

If you are bored send over a sample to blackstone, they will give you the knitty gritty
