patch truck?

I was just wondering if anyone else uses their truck in the patch, and if so what problems have you had?

 

Block heater? You will need that. Except for the cold it's the same driving conditions as anywhere else.

 

I think you missunderstood me. I know its cold here, and ive been running this truck for two years now. I would just like to know who else uses a taco for burning around oil fields. puting on big miles/km and beating the crap out of these tough little trucks.

 

It's a swamp. Move the breather on the rear axle up higher. Haven't been up there with this truck yet. Obviously you have been there and experienced the swamp first had by now.

I used mine all this summer, only in really mucky stuff every once and awhile, but it worked great for me. I do environmental consulting so I don't really have any hauling to do down backroads. Best advice is get a good set of tires...that goes for any truck venturing down lease roads though. Moving the breather up is still recommended though!

 

i have found that kumho makes a good one. I have used them for 2 yrs now almost as long as the truck. how has your held up? I would like to get at least 2 more years out of it, but it might be gone the next time i drive through a lot.

 

i ran a 97 for five years out here in central BC and AB with absolutly no issues and just started driving my 08 this year. The 08 seams to handle it well although i was thinking of a performance suspension for the washboard. I've also met a few MWD's and GEOS out here running the 2nd gens with no issues if thats any help.
All i'd suggest is good tires, proper maintenance, and give it some time to warm up when it's -50 out if you have to go anywhere.

 

I bought an 05 a year and a half ago that had been a patch truck for 3 years/180k (had 255K when I bought of 2nd owner who used it for carpentry work). Mechanically it was just fine, leaking timing cover which happens to these work trucks or not.

I have a different 05 now, same exact truck, just non-worked and only 125K. Difference I noticed is the squeeks/rattles. The composite box rattled like crazy over bumps in the first 05. The "new" one is tight. Not something you'd notice inside the cab with music on, but with windows down it sounded pretty rattly/squeeky which was kind of embarassing considering it was a Toyota. Other than that it feels pretty much the same so I'd say it's a good testament to their durability.
