Put new vacuum lines on the EGR system last night. Seems to idle a little better. Also still no P0136 code after clearing it a few days and 110+ miles. Hopefully that bad O2 sensor code was due to the crap gas and empty tank the truck had when I bought it.

Gonna put in a new CEL light tonight and take it to get smog tested again this weekend.

I've gotta do that soon too (test), not looking forward to it. Although I should pass unless they give me grief about the snorkel or chopped exhaust (they shouldn't but you never know with CA)

Regarding the P0136 code, I got that a year or so ago and it came/went on it's own a bunch of times but eventually stuck around for good. Replacing the rear o2 with a new Denso sensor for about $90 or so got rid of the code. The old sensor was black and filthy looking.

I'll keep that in mind, an o2 sensor is easy peasy to replace I assume. My last smog failed for EGR function and CEL function (not working at all) but emissions were fine. So I don't expect too much trouble it's just a PITA because I bought the truck without the test being done (I know dumb). Everything else is awesome so far though other than a little polish on some of the minor fixes to get it perfect.

Yeah replacing the rear O2 is a piece of cake. I got it done in maybe 45min, the wiring is kind of difficult with the manual trans because it comes up through a hole in the cab floor behind/under the passenger seat. I think the autos have a different location

I do have a manual, so I should expect to plug in the new sensor inside the cab under the passenger seat?

yeah the connector for it is right back there. You have to remove the trim along the floor where the door shuts (just a few screws) and then you can pull back the carpeting a bit to reveal the connector. If I recall correctly, there was a good write up on TW for doing it that I followed. But it's pretty straightforward.

Oh and the rear O2 has those little dust/water shield around it on the exhaust pipe, that thing is a bitch to remove properly so I just cut it with my angle grinder (same as the guy in the write up did). Except I just cut it 1/2 way so I could pull it back a bit to reveal the bolts. That way I could bend it back in place so it still does it's job

Auto is easy to get to from under the truck. Manual is a pain in the ass and easier to remove the center console around the shifter and access from the top.

The real hard part is not breaking the studs off on the exhaust with the rust on the threads and nuts in order to remove the sensor.

I was going to replace the whole exhaust at some point too as it's rusty af, but I was hoping to pass smog before I needed to do that.

If it makes you feel better, the last CA emissions I did was with the snorkel and chopped exhaust and it was all good

Anyone know how much vacuum should be ahead of the EGR solenoid? The nipple of the first vacuum line on the intake manifold on my truck barely has any vacuum on it. The one on the left when looking from the front of the truck on the 2.7L.

That spec is likely in the service manual. I recommend finding a copy of it for your truck.

I parked on a slope and put a garden hose in it on the high end. The first time I did it my frame was filled over half way up with dirt and gravel so in addition to the hose I ran a plumbers snake back and forth through it to loosen things up. Worked great.

Anyone in here with an AEM or any wideband sensor, where’d you guys weld the sensor bung before the cat? You have to pull the whole pipe off or is it something I could possibly get to with some good ole welding yoga?

Don't have to pull the pipe. The guy that did mine just put the truck up on a lift and drilled the hole after the headers/before the cat and welded the bung up.

Good to know! Got any photos by chance? I know instructions say your supposed to place it above the horizontal centerline at a slight angle to avoid premature fouling. Im just curious if the spot I picked out to put it is similar.
