Gladiator will kick tacoma's ass offroad.
ZR2 has a front locker standard and will probably beat tacoma offroad.
Toyota's engine and tranny are fine.
    Toyota outsells everything.

What do you think sells more magazines or gets more clicks?
"Frontrunner wins again! Click here to get your daily confirmation bias!"
    Or
"the beloved favorite is beaten! Click here to get enraged and want to defend your choice!"

You can’t even buy a Gladiator right now. There’s a stop-sale order for an unresolved problem with the driveshaft.

Having said that, everything the journalist complains about Tacoma: the low cabin roof, the flat seating position, the high hood, seems well founded.

Tacoma is the perfect truck IMHO.

Gotta remember it is a truck.

The auto trans is kinda funky, but you can press the Electronic Controlled Turbo Button "ECT" and it solves any problems I've ever had...which are few. Like pulling out in traffic or when your behind the fucking idiot that stops at the end of the expressway on ramp.

Just today while I was walking behind my grass cutting machine, my neighbors handy man pulled up in his stock white 3rd gen SR5, I thought to myself...self that's one damn good looking truck.

And you know the glad will kick it’s ass from first hand experience? You’ve actually taken both off trail and compared them?

I never thought anything negative of the auto trans in my truck, I thought it was actually fine. Then again I'm used to the funky shifting of the Freightliner 12 speed auto I drive at work.

I kind of think the used vehicle market will tell you what the consumer likes. Go look at used Tacoma’s that are within 10 years old and look at the prices they bring. I’ve had them all but the demand for used Tacoma’s is unreal

Let's be honest. If you remove durability, reliability and resale value from the equation the Tacoma is probably last. That's like saying when you remove the wins and the Super Bowl rings, Tom Brady is not a good athlete.

Cause we have 19’s and they are fine, but the early ones with problems threw a stink on them all. You can scream till you're blue in the face that they’re good but guys here will still insist they all have shifting issues.

I had a 17 SR5 auto, i loved it. Told myself with some good tires, theres nothing this truck can't do...then I figured if I'm already making the payment, might as well get the offroad. Having both, I think I read the 19's had a revised tune but I might just be making that up. Anyway the shifting seems exactly the way my 17 did. Still love my truck.

If you got one with a bad tune you’d know it. When I would ride with my buddy in his ‘16 I would notice it from the passenger seat. It’s ridiculous. I understand why people were so pissed about it. I have another buddy in Arizona that owns a 17 with the same issues. He’s ready to set it on fire with a can of gas and a road flare. I don’t blame him.

My 19 shifts smooth as glass. No different from any other vehicle I’ve ever had. It is like night and day compared to the bad ones.

I must be one of the lucky 2016 owners. No issues so far.

Sweet..so a bad tune on the teuck would be similar to having crabs..if you're not sure you have them, you probably don't. But when you have them, you know.

SSO hybrid bumper, Warn winch, RCI skid trilogy, RRW sliders, everything in the cheap/free mods thread, and of course the frame recall work.
Is this based upon empirical test data you obtained or is it speculation?

When I had the recall done on the radar thing in the grill, I walked around the lot looking at used Tacoma's. They were asking $35.989 for a 2017 4 door short bed 2 wheel drive SR5. That's more than $4K than I paid for my brand new 2018 access cab 4x4 V6 SR5.
