Double Cab to Access Cab

Ive had 67k perfect miles with my 2014 DCSB OR. I am now looking my self in the mirror, being in my early twenties, no plans on kids in the near future, really wishing i had a access cab for the extra length in the bed. Ive managed just fine with the double cab, i know its benefits for interior space, i just find myself wishing i had the exact same truck but with the extra foot in the bed for storing bikes right side up, sleeping platform for one (or two) but maintaining that great wheelbase and simplicity. Im curious if people have had the same urge and regretted making the switch to an AC? I dont want a DCLB, i drive them for work and would prefer the shorter wheelbase. I've driven more than 2 people in my car maybe twice since i've had for 3 years.. figured if i'm going to make the switch, id be happier doing it sooner than later, and if kids come into the equation before the thing dies at 300k miles (like i plan) id be getting a fullsize truck anyways. Id also preferably stay with a 2nd gen with similar or potentially lower miles, although a 3rd gen AC is a great truck as well. Id like to step into a truck with similar or lower miles than mine.

Again, i am forever grateful to have what i have currently, just am finally confronting what i have been pushing out of my mind for a couple years now and looking into the switch.

 

I have an access cab and in my early 20s as well. I'm happy with an AC. Sometimes I wish I had a DC just so I can fit more friends . Found a lot of DC and thought since it's just for me, my dad thought so too, I rather get an AC. Will surely get a DC Tacoma when the time comes. Or maybe a Tundra

 

even a double cab with anyone older than five in the back is pinched... i like to drive with my seat all the way back so its not like theres too much room to fit to begin with behind me.. 2030 model tundra coming in hottt

 

I have an access cab and love it. My friends have their own cars and my kids are grown. No need for the back seats.

 

Hated my access cab, simply for my dog and little garage.

Buying groceries sucked too, you have to open both doors and you get pinched in.

6 foot box is worth it to some but I wouldn't do it again.

I came from an Xtra cab 1st gen. I woulda kept that truck forever (just let it go after nearly 20 years) if the Xtra cab just woulda had some Access Cab doors. For the new truck it was really important to have everything, hence the DCLB. I'm happy with it, but it's a big truck compared to my 1st gen. Fine on the highway but not quite as nimble in the woods.

 

I have 2 access cabs, & love(just wish the little windows opened). I need the longer bed & the back is set up with the seats down & a fitted piece of Plywood across them. I store jumper cables & all in the foot space, & my dogs ride on top.

 

I have a 2010 AC, love the 6 ft. bed, kids are grown but my daughter can fit in the back seat for a 10 minute ride to take the dogs for a hike, just like the proportional look of the access cabs.......

 

I'm rocking a dclb and love it! The two reasons why I bought it was for full size doors and a 6-ft bed.
I had always been a Ford guy up until this truck. If their explorer sport track had a 6 ft bed, I would probably be driving it now. As it turns out, I'm glad they didn't.
The motivation for buying the truck was putting my wife and older daughter into the back on the jump seats with a toddler car seat up front. Her car popped the heater core and i couldn't bypass it.
Had it towed to the garage and they fixed it.

 

I have a wife and 2 kids, and I still decided that I'd rather have a 6' bed (well, that and an extra $6k or more in my pocket) than more cab. Although I guess it helps that I have a wagon-y DD for going places (and at 8 & 10 I can still pack both kids in when I want to) and that a 6-speed double cab in a condition I was willing to take out a loan to buy didn't seem to exist in a price range I was willing to pay.

OTOH I also have a little 5x8 trailer and used to laugh at the "real trucks have 8' beds" people cuz I can just hitch that up and do everything they can and more... so maybe I would get used to it if I'd bought a short bed.

 

I also require a six foot bed to fit my dinghy

 

Better watch out, once you have that 6' bed with sleeping platform big enough to sleep two you're gonna need that full back seat soon after

 

Our kids are grown up and gone. I have the access cab in the exact configuration I wanted. I like the feel of the smaller truck and don't have to haul everyone around if there's a group of us going somewhere. If we need people space, I take the wife's minivan.
I think there's plenty of room for groceries, guns or a golf bag. I usually keep a change of clothes, a jacket and a few other basic necessities back there, but don't need the extra full seats.
Only occasionally do I wish I had the extra seats, but not very often.

If you’re single with just a gf/wife, access cab is perfect...for a family of 3-4...don’t even think about it lol! Had to get rid of my XRunner with our 1st born, I tried to make it work but it wasn’t worth it, none of us were comfortable.

 

I wanted an access cab. Purchased a double cab, for when my wife and I eventually have children, I do not want to have to get rid of my truck because of that.

 

Our kids are grown and have kids of their own. We just bought my wife a new RAV4, so it’s my turn soon and I intend to get another access cab Tacoma.

 

Have a 7 year old and 1 year old, Tundra or Sequoia is in the near future.

 

keep the double cab, get creative with creating extra bed space with the tailgate down. Hauled dirtbikes multiple, standup jetskis, camp gear etc etc all in the bed. Once did a trip with 4.5 adults myself included (.5 was a girl in the back middle that weighs maybe 110....) for a 700mi round trip drive with a bed full of snowboard gear and bags... it was tight, but it worked with a bed extender I made. Driver + 3 normal size adults is dooable, ideally 2 passengers so you have some interior space to put bags.

Yes there are times i wish i had a long bed, but NEVER has there been a time were id gladly trade interior space for the bed length.
