Last year was the first year I noticed the pre-storm brine being sprayed on the roads in Colorado... I had a 1st Gen Tacoma that never had rust issues, and I never coated it with anything either. It was a Texas truck before I bought it and then it lived in CO for 4 years before I sold it.

I'm wondering if the "corrosion inhibitor", along with our dry climate and frequent car washes translates to no rust in CO.

Are there any early 3rd gen owners in CO here? What's the bottom of your truck looking like after 3-4 years?

CDOT has this on their site:

CDOT makes an anti-icing brine mix in-house at a rate of 42 cents per gallon. This product is applied hours before a snowstorm or icestorm and will appear as white stripes on the roadway once dry.

Unlike other anti-icing products used throughout the country, CDOT's brine mix contains a corrosion inhibitor, which helps prevent damage on both vehicles and infrastructure. Once snow begins to fall, or the temperature drops below freezing, crews will stop using the anti-icer and switch over to de-icers.

Nearly 3 years on CO roads, and tons of winter mountain driving with little to no rust. never treated the frame either

Good to hear that. I did a search and didn't find much relat d to Colorado and rust so I guess that's a good sign.

It barely snows on the front range, so we have that going for us.

More likely to have your truck totaled by a fun hating zero meat granola crunchy Subaru driver or hail in CO

Do they put salt on the roads out there like they do here in Illinois? I think that's the biggest cause of the rust issues...

They use sand and magnesium chloride. Mag chloride is worse than salt but we don’t really get as consistent and as wet snow storms here.

Most of the time it snows and then melts away a couple days later then snows and melts and repeat.

    We get too much sun.

I read somewhere Colorado is the perfect climate to buy a used a vehicle (even better than southwest) so I'm assuming they don't salt the roads?

I would buy a used car out of Colorado because hail. I think they get more hail vs anywhere else

Depends, southern Colorado does like way south but people have lived here for decades with no hail claims.

Ironically we replaced my wife’s windshield every year in DC and since moving back to CO we have never needed to replace it.

This coming winter will be my 4th in this vehicle. I park outside and live in the mountains where there is snow on the roads most of the winter. So far little to no rust. With the mag chloride and rocks my paint and windshield have taken a beating though. If you're concerned however, Fluid Film seems to be the go to on here for prevention and peace of mind.
