MESO Puddle Light build

Why are so many people having an issue removing the switch? Use plastic trim tools to pop it out, pull it out alittlebit, unclip the harness and go?

 

It's not the switch people are having trouble with, its the clip holding it in. Many don't know you can pop the switch out completely first.

 

When I made the guide, I was figuring it out as I went and it was a first stab at documenting what to do. Some trial and error and maybe not everything was the most efficient

You guys are awesome though and have figured out some better ways to do a few of the tasks especially now that so many people have gone through the install process. If anyone wants to take a few pictures and write out their deviations from the instructions, we can get that over to @MESO and @LivinOnEdge to update the PDF if it makes sense.

 

When I put mine in, I struggled with that plug for a good 5 or 6 minutes. Then I examined the switch assembly. I pulled the little silver screw and took the entire assembly out. Once it was off the door panel I was able to use a small screw driver and push below the release button and the silly plug slipped out nice and easy. I put the switch panel back onto the door panel and continued with the install.

Some of the Toyota plugs seem to have a release trigger that is a hair too short to release the plug or a locking hoop that is a bit too shallow. Had the same issue with my reverse bulb sockets when I put in my Total Tails prototype as well as the Total Tail V1's. I found a small flat blade screw driver took very little effort to release the plug.

 

Yes the paint on my truck started peeling with the curse words I had for Toyota and their shit connectors..

 

Thankfully their plastic is also sub par and flexy

 

Thats what it seems like to me too. I used a pick right at the locking hoop.

I recently had a Lexus UX as a loaner car, when my truck was in service.
One of the most interesting feature, was the turning assist spotlight.

If you turn the steering wheel, or have your turn signals on it would illuminate the area you are turning too.
It even turns on both spotlights when in reverse to help you see your surroundings.

I was wondering, would it be possible for the puddle lights to mimic such feature?
Since the puddle lights can basically illuminate your entire left and right.

 

Installed mine today in the sun along with meso's turn signals.

Took about 2 hours total. Snapped off a couple of the tabs on the driver pod mount so it has a gap (message in to meso to buy a new one) but it was at out of 10 install. Time consuming but not too hard. Honestly the tough part is getting the wire through the rubber tunnel and up the door. Everything thing else was okay.
Followed the PDF and the YouTube vid I found on how to install.

Off topic but I’m assuming you’re a corgi owner by your SN. Here’s my guy

 

long time Cardigan owner...just have a swedish vallhund now (and well a first grader which is why the wife says no to another corgi right now)

 

This just saved me from cutting all the wires. The harness release tab was faulty and could not get mine out without seeing it.

Should make this post more prominent somehow.

 

Interested in this too, because.... old man eyes and all.

 

Got my puddle pod last week.

My review:
1) plastic clips for covers are brittle. Broke 2.
2) The LED lights dont sit flush in the recess.
3) I ran the passenger cord under the carpet, too short.
4) As others have mentioned, have fun getting the cord through the accordion boot. I used ALOT of electrical tape.
5) Gap on the drivers side cover, couldnt live with it... Had to run a small bead of black RTV.

All in all a good product, expecting perfect OEM fit for this version is not posssible. Overall 7.5 out of 10. Minor tweaks could make this a better product.

 

I duct taped mine to a metal kebob skewer, and sprayed a bit of WD-40 down in the boot. Slid right through. Took longer to get the duct tape off than it did to remove the boot and push the cord through.

 

Ah, the ‘old metal kabob skewer to the rescue’ trick. Been there, done that many times.

 

I thought the same until I redid it and I went under the passenger side and then once on the driver's side went straight up instead of under.

 

Some people have the gap, some others do not.
On my Powerfolding mirrors, I had the gap too, but after moving around the LED mounting screws, I was able to get it to sit flush.

I did the opposite, I went it under the carpet for the driver's side, then straight for the passenger side.

Did not want to risk the cable dropping when I am drivIng.

 

Fair. Mine is up over the steering column zip ties to some other wires so no worry of it falling.

Any chance the puddle switch will be available before winter kicks in? I’m anxious to see how they work in the New England winters
