Are power windows even a possibility in a regular cab?

I'm still trying to hunt down the perfect Tacoma for myself, and I'm leaning towards the 4x4 regular cab 5 speed.

My only real gripe is that it would appear that you cannot get the regular cab with power windows or door locks. Is this true? I've checked the brochures and the site and it would appear that way. If it's the case I may have to suck it up and crank em up

Seems very odd in this day and age to still offer a configuration of a vehicle with no power options...

This truck is not sold in Canada... Regular cab is pretty useless, amazing they sell them (only thing good with them if they have a long box).

 

It would make sense. It’s the absolute basic model and purely a work truck a business would buy for hauling stuff or for their service crew.

 

See the reason I like the regular cab is because I honestly don't need the extra space (and price) of the access cab. I just want two seats and a bed, is it too much to ask for power windows

I hear you but then what can you do. I think the power window package also incorporates a few other options, hence the price. I think the base model may have the same wiring harness as the other models. If this is true, you can add the power winder later on .

Yes you can get power windows. I had them put in my 2002 Dodge Ram all 4 doors. I think it cost me around $600.00 or maybe less. Any good car stereo shop should be able to help you. I thought about it but I have long arms and can just reach over. I did have power door locks and alarm put in mine thought. It cost $300.00 and I think it's on of the best investments I made on my Reg Cab.

that's actually what made me switch to the access cab. I made the dealership find my perfect truck (4 cylinder 5 speed regular cab 4x4 in green) but during the test drive I realized no power windows/locks/cruise. it was not possible to get them on the regular cab, so now I own an sr5 access cab 4x4. Really the deciding factor was the cruise, I've put 26,000 miles on my truck, bough it in March of 2010

 

I had power locks installed on my 2011 regular cab when I put in an alarm. I needed the shorter regular cab because I live in San Francisco where the shorter length of the truck will help with parking, plus I am geting a camper shell next week so I will have all the extra storage space I need. For the locks they charged $150 per side or $300. they said they could do power windows for $600. Call around and get quotes. At first they said they couldn't do power locks but when they opened up the door they found out they could.

 

Hey I actually put power locks with keyless entry and power windows in my 2010 regular cab. I got the two kits from A1 Electric.

Me and a buddy put them in my truck over two nights. We're not too mechanically inclined, but everything works great four months in. When I get home I'll post some pictures of the install.

 

I love my crank windows and manual locks. That's four items total that I don't have to worry about going wrong. My '99 had all the power goodies including cruise and I don't miss all that stuff. I want to keep the truck forever and I know those switches and motors won't last that long. The passenger window motor started going 2 weeks before my buyback on the '99.

 

I like the manual aspects of my truck...makes me feel more connected to her.

And to comment on the 2nd post, I don't really see how the regular cab is useless...

 

Hmm, didn't notice this until you mentioned it. What does the SR5 pkg buy you if there is no power windows?

As far as I know it's only the alloy wheels and the color keyed bumpers / fenders. I couldn't find a regular cab SR5 in NJ.

 

Ed Zachery! I didn't know you could even buy a vehicle with crank windows anymore. Don't miss 'em. As you say power windows are just one more thing to go wrong. I like the idea of the simplicity, even if it does not really matter.

I had gone so long before I bought a more modern car, that when I did (a 2006 Boxster S) last Februray, it was the first I'd ever had that had keyless entry, the remote thingy. I had just gotten used to it and learned to appreciate it when I bought the Tacoma Dec. 1. So I do kind of miss that.

The only other thing I miss is the outside temperature indicator.

I bought the regular cab in part because I wanted something that looked like a truck. There is something, to me, ugly about the proportions of the extended cab. The access cab is not quite so bad. I also wanted to keep the weight down, one of the reasons I went with the 4 cylinder.

 

I guess it explains why Toyota's online configurator no longer shows the SR5 package for 2011 regular cabs - not much content to justify the price.

Crank windows require you to lean forward to use them while driving. Don't like them.

 

Well to each their own. I can reach the passenger side in a mid size truck without having to take my eyes off the road. Cranks are faster and more reliable. I dig em. Only care about electrics in 4 doors.


I'd never pay for electric windows or an access cab if I didn;t "have to" I needed 1 more seat and they don't sell a work truck around here, if at all.

 

Hi Jackassmcpunk. I'm new to TacomaWorld and looked closely at your post. I have an 07 single can prerunner and have been searching exhaustively how to install aftermarket power windows and locks. I believe I have everything I need (Spal deluxe window kit) but am reluctant to start as this seems quite complex to me. Can you post photos and steps on doing this? Any help is most appreciated. Thanks.
