I put it in a huge 15 gallon jug and a guy takes it to heat his shop with an oil burner

the oil change places sell the used oil. They will accept a sealed container - a jug with a thread on cap qualifies - and just add it to theirs. I take mine to a mate that has a waste oil heater and he burns it up in the winter.

    I kid.
Thanks for the tip that most places accept used oil. I thought you had to pay most to take it. I'll ask before I end up with 5 quarts of used oil sitting around

my neighbor used to keep his in a pan hidden in the bushes
in the early 80s my family's first dog, chihuahua mix, got involved with this hidden pan while exploring and came hobbling back home covered up nearly to her whiskers
my Dad did not take kindly as he headed next door for some confrontation, i was a pre-teen so do not quite remember the deets anymore

    that’s kinda the idea lol

issue is now that the good synthetics can / will outlast the filter so that’s the limiting factor now

Could be worse, he could have listened to popular mechanics and their advice from 1963.

we used to get drums of used oil from the motor pool dropped off and we’d put it down range for the guys to burn on demo days.

That’s awesome. I love using oil on fires. So terrible. But burns so nice.

I've always gone to Sam's Club (if you have a membership). Installation for $15/wheel is pretty hard to beat
